Taunton High School Summer Update
July 23, 2024
Principal's Corner
My first three weeks as the principal have been fantastic! I have enjoyed meeting with staff and students involved in our summer programming. Everyone has been kind and welcoming! I am proud to join the Taunton community and look forward to getting to know our students and families in the coming weeks and months.
If students and parents/guardians can complete this four-question open-response survey, this feedback will provide me with valuable perspectives before the first day of school.
Here are just a few updates as we have been busy this summer planning for the new school year. I will send a second summer update as we get closer to the first day of school on Wednesday, August 28th.

Grade 8 Orientation
We will have a Grade 8 Student Orientation event on Friday, August 23rd from 12 pm-4 pm. We will send you more information about this event in early August, but Grade 8 students will have the opportunity to tour the high school, meet with trained mentors, and learn about the high school. This is an important event for students, and we have coordinated with fall athletics to prevent conflicts! We will offer busing to and from the event using a modified busing schedule which we will share as we get closer to the event. We will host a separate event for parents/guardians (not students) on Thursday, August 22nd, from 6:30 PM-7:30 PM in the Taunton High School auditorium.
Summer College Bootcamp
As we approach the end of the school year, we want to invite rising seniors - to participate in our Summer College Boot Camp. This free 3-day program will give you the tools to start the college application process successfully. This program will be held August 13-15th, 9am-12pm in the THS College & Career Center. This is a great opportunity to get a headstart on your applications and is especially helpful for first-generation college students and those planning to apply Early Action and to highly selective schools. Students are encouraged, but not required, to attend all sessions. If you're interested in participating, please sign up in advance so we can send you more information over the summer.
We hope to see you in August! Questions? Reach out to Mrs. Golder at agolder@tauntonschools.org
Student Schedules 2024-2025
In late August (a few days before the first day of school), we plan to make student academic schedules for the 2024-2025 school year available on the School Brains portal. We will send a separate email when these schedules are available for viewing and we will let you know when counselors will be available to review any schedule change requests with students and families.
Students Travel to Spain & Portugal!
From June 19th through June 28, 2024, THS students traveled to Spain and Portugal. Led by chaperones Ms. Golder, Ms. Musa- Marrero, Mr. Greding, Mr. Purpura, Mr. Leonard, and Mr. Moore, the students had a fantastic time! Thank you to the team for updating the Explorica Travel Journal so we could follow along about their travel experience! Some highlights of the trip included exploring the Tejo River, eating at Mercado da Ribeira, and enjoying the beautiful beaches in Sintra and Cascais. The group enjoyed fireworks in San Juan and learned about the historical Seville! The students learned about the beautiful architecture involved with European cathedrals and mosques. A special thank you to our chaperones for taking our students on this remarkable experience!
Skills USA Travels to Atlanta!
Congratulations to our students who competed in Skills USA in Atlanta, Georgia at the start of the summer. SkillsUSA is a United States career and technical student organization serving more than 395,000 high school, college and middle school students and professional members enrolled in training programs in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
This year's competition theme was "No Limits."
Featured below are Logan Rebello, Nick Woodward, Dara Pereira, and Alaney Murphy. Thank you to Advisor Ms. Gibson and chaperone Ms. Murphy for taking students on this experience.
