Midsummer Update
North Rockland Central School District Midsummer Update
Hello North Rockland Families,
It’s hard to believe graduation was a month ago and we’ve reached the halfway point of the summer break. Around the district, our non-instructional staff have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming year. Our facilities and custodial teams have been diligently working since school let out, not only cleaning and making necessary repairs but also implementing significant improvements across all our buildings.
We have undertaken significant paving projects, installed HVAC systems at both Farley and Willow Grove Elementary Schools, replaced all the doors at Haverstraw Elementary School, and are putting the finishing touches on the Fieldstone Middle School auditorium. In the coming weeks, we’ll be cutting the ribbons on our new football stadium, and reopening the Neary School, site of our PreK and intensive day programs.
In addition to the physical improvements, our IT department has been busy preparing new devices, installing equipment, and enhancing our wifi access to ensure smooth and efficient technology use for all. They are rolling out updates and upgrades to provide the best possible digital learning environment. We also have many dedicated staff members hard at work on curriculum improvement projects, creating schedules for hundreds of students, and managing the day-to-day operations that keep our schools running smoothly. We are incredibly appreciative of the efforts of our year-round employees who contribute to the continued success of our district. We look forward to welcoming students back to an even better and more prepared learning environment next month, beginning with our Open Houses on Tuesday, August 27.
Of course, we are not the only ones who have been hard at work this summer. Many of you have undoubtedly noticed the several sizable road construction projects that are underway in our two towns. As you start to think ahead to the new school year, please keep in mind that many of these projects will still be incomplete when school resumes. We anticipate temporarily longer bus rides and adjusted pickup/drop off times for some students as we detour around this work. We will share specific plans with impacted families as they become available. We expect all bus route information to be available on Infinite Campus by August 22.
We are working closely with our partners in the Haverstraw and Stony Point Police Departments to establish plans and procedures to ensure our students' safety and reduce bus rides and wait times as much as possible. We thank all our community partners for the time and attention they have devoted to helping us navigate this situation.
Finally, I hope you’ll join me in congratulating North Rockland graduate Eric Favors on his appearance in the Paris 2024 Olympics. Eric was a two time New York State champion in the shot put during his senior year at NRHS, and was a scholarship athlete at the University of South Carolina. Since 2019, he has competed for Ireland, where he holds multiple national records and was the nation’s first shot put Olympic athlete in over thirty years.

Smart fun in the summertime!
Students have been able to experience a variety of fun and educational camps this summer.
During Camp Adventure, students were exposed to a variety of fun, hands-on creative activities. Students were invited to study drama, agriculture, digital design, cooking, knitting and STEM during the course of the camp. From making crepes from scratch to exploring mindfulness and brain challenges, students had fun while sharpening their hard and soft skills.

School Lunch Information
School lunch information is available on the Food Services section of our website. There you will be able to find school lunch menus, lunch program information and nutrition resources. Please remember we are able to provide our community with the free breakfast and lunch programs because of the information generated in our lunch forms program. Please be sure to complete your application each school year. We need your help to access these and other important funding resources which are linked to our free and reduced lunch program counts.
Immunization Reminder
The North Rockland Central School District maintains strict compliance with New York State Immunization laws. New York State Public Health Law, Section 2164 requires that schools do not permit a child to attend school unless the parent provides the school with a certificate of immunization or proof from a physician, nurse practitioner or physician's assistant that the child is in the process of receiving the required immunizations. All students that are not in compliance by day 14 may not attend on day 15, and are required to be reported to the Department of health. This applies to both the Meningitis vaccine and the TDAP vaccine as well. Simply stated, if your child is not up to date with all required immunizations, they will not be permitted to attend school after the 14th day of school. The exclusion date for the 24/25 school year is September 17, 2024.
Please reach out to your child’s Health Care Provider now, and inquire about required immunizations. If you do not have Health Insurance, you can contact the Rockland County Immunization Clinic at (845) 364-2520. Please also check your email and mail for notices that were sent home if your child was in need of a vaccine.
