Black History Month Celebrations
In 4th grade art class with Miss Willgruber, students were informed about the Harlem Renaissance and the types of artists who created work during that time. From musicians to painters, African American artists were at work and inspiring each other. We talked about how jazz was born during this time period and what sorts of instruments were used to perform. Then, the kids were asked to use cardboard and other art materials to create their own instruments. They did an amazing job using their creative problem solving skills to recreate music through visual art.
Mrs. Gualtieri's second grade class completed these adorable biographies in celebration of Black History Month. Students used their iPads to complete research on their designated person to complete their biographies.
In 4th and 5th grade music classes, Mrs. Mullen and her students have been celebrating Black History Month by learning songs such as Lift Every Voice and Sing and We Shall Overcome. Students also had the opportunity to listen to select music from this year's Super Bowl (GO EAGLES!) and talking about performers such as Trombone Shorty, Jon Batiste and Kendrick Lamar.
In Ms. McBall's kindergarten class, students learned about Alfred L. Cralle who invented the ice cream scoop in 1897. Cralle was an African American businessman and inventor. Students made these beautiful ice cream sundaes to celebrate his invention!

Care Solace
Dear CASD Parents, Guardians, and Families,
I am very pleased to share with you that the Coatesville Area School District will begin offering a free mental health and substance abuse counseling service referral system to connect our students, their families, and our employees and their families, to services – as a way to make finding help easier and faster.
Thanks to grant funding, the district has begun a relationship with a care services connector called Care Solace that specializes in helping people navigate what is often a very complex mental healthcare system.
Care Solace does not diagnose or provide treatment, but they will quickly connect you with a licensed professional who can. Care Solace takes on the lengthy intake process so that you don’t have to call multiple providers and walk through the same process each time. Care Solace counselors will connect you with providers accepting all kinds of insurance, including Medicaid, Medicare, and sliding scale options for families without insurance. All information shared with Care Solace is completely confidential.
You can access Care Solace services by calling 888-515-0595 at any time. You can also visit the Care Solace website at: caresolace.com/casdschools or you can access the homepage for the CASD website, www.casdschools.org to access the Care Solace Link.
Multilingual support is available 24/7, every day. Once you reach out via phone or online, a Care Companion will:
• Discuss what services you child or any member of your family might need
• Secure an appointment for you so you can begin services
• Follow up with you to make sure progress is being made
This service is completely optional and is provided at no cost. Several school districts across the state have a partnership with Care Solace. If you need immediate assistance in the event of a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.
If you have any questions about this service, please contact your student's guidance counselor or building administrator. You can also reach me at snyderm@casdschools.org.
Sincerely,
Michele Snyder
Director of Pupil Services
