Telluride Start-up Weekend
In just 54 hours, you will experience the highs, lows, fun, and pressure that make up life at a startup. As you learn how to create a real company, you'll meet the very best mentors, investors, cofounders, and sponsors who are ready to help you get started. Your community is here to help you!
(https://startupweekend.org/) Three students from Career Center participated in the Techstars Startup Weekend Telluride Jan 19-21. They joined two Fruita Monument High School students and two Fruita 8/9 students. Startup weekends are a global phenomenon where entrepreneurial-minded people come together for an intensive 54-hour weekend to pitch a business idea, form teams and work on the details transforming this idea into a viable business. Groups cover everything from market research, surveys, product development, sales forecasting, marketing and more. At the end of the weekend, groups present their business to a panel of judges in a Shark Tank-like format. The groups have 5 minutes to pitch followed with 3 minutes of Q/A from judges. The D51 students formed two groups around two different business ideas and worked all weekend to bring their ideas to reality. The Fruita group was recognized as “Best potential entrepreneurs” at the awards ceremony. One of the Career Center students, Nathaniel Doty, was even on the winning team! The group pictured below from left to right: Nathaniel Doty (Career Center), Wende Gist (Computer Technology Teacher Career Center), Edward Dolly (Career Center), Nathaniel Simon (Career Center), Cam Wyatt (Principal Career Center), Caleb Nicolas(FMHS Junior), Jayden McMurray (FMHS Junior), Kyrah Carville (F 8/9 Freshman), Malia Recker(F8/9 Freshman), Kathaleen Recker (FMHS Business Teacher) Career Center wants to thank our sponsor SC Solutions for helping us get to this great event and for the startup weekend facilitator for the invite. Thank you!
