Welcome to the St. Nick's Youth Ministry Update
THE 'S' WORD
The Farmers' Almanac says, “Indian summer” is a phrase most North Americans use to describe an unseasonably warm and sunny patch of weather during autumn.
No one really knows how the term “Indian summer” came (about... some) speculate that Native Americans recognized this weather pattern and used the opportunity to gather additional food for the winter.
After our nice long version of an Alaskan "Indian Summer", it's time for the 'S' word... SNOW!
With that comes magnificent beauty, but also slippery walkways and cooler temps.
Please ensure Youth & Teens continue to bring appropriate attire for any event (such as an emergency) that may require us to be outdoors. Thanks! -Mrs. Beth

FIRST FRIDAY
FRIDAY, OCT. 4TH
Last week we had 20 Youth & Teens come together for another fun FIRST FRIDAY! See video below.
We began by sharing dinner together in the Social Hall. We reviewed that the month of October is dedicated to the Rosary and watched a video of the Battle of Lepanto. See video below.
Next the Youth & Teens divided into two groups. One group went into the church, while the other chose to be near Mary's Shrine outside. Both groups prayed the Rosary for the recipients of their service project.
Then they came back to the Social Hall and got to work on the service project that they chose for this month. They formed an assembly line to fill treat bags with candy. They also prepared tags that they then tied onto each bag. See image above.
The candy bags will be given to Youth & Teens through local community programs (SOAP, The Door, Boys & Girls Club). I am so very proud to say that the kids came up with the idea for this service project and it was perfect!
Finally, they enjoyed free time in the Youth Room together until parents arrived. It was another great night! Special thanks to Mrs. Shannon & Mr. Rob for joining us!
EDGE - MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP
RECAP FOR OCT 6
Last week EDGE began Lesson 1 of Encounter, the Bible Timeline for Middle School.
We covered Part 1 of Lesson 1 reviewing and discussing 'Introduction to the Bible'. See slides below. We also watched the accompanying video explaining this lesson. See MP4 link below. This included reviewing a printed Bible TImeline Chart & Map provided for each of the Youth. See image below.
We then reveiwed how to find scripture in the Bible, then divided into groups for a Bible Race! Each group chose a verse and raced to find it first. The winning group got first dibs on the prize basket, but they all did really well and had a turn to choose a prize! See video below.
Due to the amount of content, each lesson will be divided into 2 parts.
We will cover 1 part of each lesson most Sundays of EDGE as permitted by our calendar schedule.
Some sessions may be supplemented with other liturgical lessons and activities when applicable.
Many thanks to Karissa Keyfar for joining us!
COMING UP ON OCT 13
This week EDGE will begin with Adoration and then cover Part 2 to finish Lesson 1 of Encounter.
HSYG - HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP
RECAP FOR OCT 6
Last week HSYG began Lesson 1 of Venture, the Bible Timeline for High School.
We covered Part 1 of Lesson 1 reviewing and discussing 'An Introduction to the Bible'. See slides below. We watched an accompanying video explaining this lesson. See MP4 link below. This included reviewing a printed Bible TImeline Chart & Map along with an Overview provided for each of the Youth. See image below.
Next we viewed 'Calling Fr. Josh' and the Teens had a lively discussion prompted by questions pertaining to the video and the Inerrancy of Scripture. They then broke into groups to summarize what had been covered in this lesson so far. It was very interesting to hear that while they all mentioned the same things, their interpretations were varied based on what stood out most to those in each group. And, we ended with the Teens sharing free time tigether! See video below.
Due to the amount of content, each lesson will be divided into 2 parts.
We will cover 1 part of each lesson most Sundays of HSYG as permitted by our calendar schedule.
Some sessions may be supplemented with other liturgical lessons and activities when applicable.
Many thanks to Shannon & Rob Blackburn for blessing us with their ongoing assistance in HSYG!
COMING UP ON OCT 13
This week the Teens will begin with Adoration and then cover Part 2 to finish Lesson 1 of Venture.
