Nurse Update
This month I will begin state mandated vision screenings for all preschool students. This entails the following screenings: near visual acuity (LEA SYMBOLS used - students identify/point to shapes) and distance visual acuity (SPOT vision screener used - a handheld, portable vision screener which most pediatric practices use). These screenings are a beneficial tool that may help identify potential issues that could affect your child’s health and learning. Families will be notified in writing if a student does not pass their screening and I will work with you to obtain the appropriate referrals and follow-up services as needed.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Preschool Screenings
Rodman Preschool Families,
At the Rodman Preschool, we do a number of assessments to help monitor student progress and help better identify student needs for program decision making, instruction, and curriculum. We will start our developmental screeners soon on all community peers. These take a quick look at cognitive, language, and motor development. Some screenings will happen during the day and others will be scheduled after our regular dismissal time (1pm). Teachers will reach out directly to you for scheduling afterschool. We will share results with you during parent conferences. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Rodman Teachers
Curriculum Corner - Fall & Forest
Preschoolers are delving into the wonderful world of apples with imaginative activities that engage their curiosity and creativity. Hands-on science experiments with magnifying glasses and scales are allowing young minds to observe the intricate details of apples, explore their weight and size variations, and unlock the magic of nature. Matching and sorting activities are enhancing cognitive skills as children group apples based on colors, shapes, sizes, and more, fostering a deeper understanding of classification and organization. This explorative journey is not just fun and games—it's a holistic learning experience that celebrates the wonders of nature and the joy of discovery for our youngest learners.
Book Highlight of the Week
Preschoolers in Room 7 excitedly had to use their sense of touch to guess hidden fall items reviewed in Leaf Man. Giggles filled the room as tiny hands carefully felt the various hidden items within, from crunchy leaves to pointy pinecones. This sensory-filled experience not only sparked their imagination but also deepened their connection to nature and the wonders of autumn.
