From the Principal's Desk
Hello Little Viking Families,
Welcome back to our 3 weeks of school before winter break! Even though these weeks will go fast, there is a lot happening around the school. Next week is our winter i-ready benchmarking assessments. In class, K-1 students will take this assessment to measure their growth so far this year in the areas of Reading and Math. With the tight winter window, these results may not be sent home until the new year, but please make sure to get students to school on time and rested so they can show their best on these assessments next week!
Speaking of attendance, this week back we have had a large amount of student tardies. Please remember class STARTS at 7:50am. Students should be arriving to school prior to that time. We do have some students struggling in the mornings when they are arriving late and missing those morning routines. We want to make sure they have a great start to their day, and being on time is a huge factor for our littlest learners! Thank you for your support.
A few additional reminders:
Winter Reading Incentive - Students went home this week with a 2 week calendar. If they read for 14 days over the month of December and turn in their signed calendar, they will get a voucher for 10 FREE points in Chuck E’ Cheese! This can be used anytime, but FTC is hosting a dine out/Salt Creek event at Chuck E’ Cheese over winter break on Friday Dec. 27th. See the flyer below for more details and coupons!
In the event of an emergency weather day, we may utilize our eLearning plan and hold school remotely. This is still considered a school day and students must be called out if absent. Teachers will prepare students ahead of time to know how to join remotely. If you can have them log in to their computers, we can guide them the rest of the way! Please be sure to review the eLearning day schedule in more detail below in case we need to use it!
Our final week before break Salt Creek and Swartz will be having a spirit week! See the details below, but a flyer will come home the Friday before as a reminder as well.
Starting in January, I will be taking a short FMLA leave and Mr. Steven Hanus will be acting Principal at Salt Creek School! Please reach out to him with any building concerns. This will be an easy and positive transition for our building and students since Mr. Hanus knows all of our students and staff already. I am so grateful he agreed to step up and lead the building in my absence. If you need to contact him, you can still call the school and ask to be directed to the principal, or email him at shanus@saltcreek48.org. I will be returning to work intermittently throughout February and March and will be back in the building full time after spring break in April.
Have a great weekend little viking families,
-Mrs. Scanlan

I Love U Guys ❤️
Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
