Abraham Lincoln drawings have been submitted to the University of St. Mary's Lincoln Art Contest. Finalists will be announced in February.
Culinary Essentials:
Students began learning the Rules of Mise en Place, “to put in place” this week. To put this new skill into practice the class has been working together to produce a Classgiving Meal! Put their Culinary skills to work next week in the kitchen over the break.
If you have any questions, please contact me at kcox@usd207.org
Foods and Nutrition: Foods & Nutrition: As we begin wrapping up Unit 3: The Food We Eat, students have selected a common food allergen to research and prepare a presentation over. The students have been working all week in class and will have next week(2 days) to complete this project. Please encourage your kiddos to join you in the kitchen over the break to continue practicing their culinary skills.
If you have any questions, please contact me at kcox@usd207.org
Principles of Biomedical Science:
Students are in the midst of lesson 2.1.4 which is over routine labs in the doctor office and components of human blood. We are viewing blood under the microscope using pre-made slides from a scientific supply company. Students are identifying parts of human blood and becoming familiar with the role they play in our bodies. Next week, students will have the experience of drawing blood (water with food coloring) on a phlebotomy simulation arm. It is a rare opportunity and exciting for the students! Please remind your son/daughter to wear old clothes that day as there’s a chance the food coloring could stain clothing. Just to reassure you, students will NOT come in contact with real blood during this class.
We are continuing to have weekly quizzes over the reading on the PLTW website. Please encourage and remind your son/daughter to do the assigned weekly reading. Have a wonderful weekend!
