CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
Science Instructional Materials Adoption
I was very conservative with our current biennium IMA funds (2022-2024) in anticipation of this curriculum adoption. I am pleased to report that we will be able to purchase all requested Science materials for grades K-HS using the remainder of our current biennium IMA funds. In many cases, districts were relying on the 2024-2026 biennium IMA funds for this adoption cycle. We will now be able to use next biennium's IMA funds for many of the currently adopted materials we previously paid for using ESSER funds.
Instructional Update
Leading up to STAAR, all campuses engaged students in a review of readiness standards. Teachers utilized dedicated class time, Tribe Time, or Warrior Time to ensure students had ample time to prepare for each STAAR assessment. The rest of the class time was spent continuing to cover new standards while completing TRS units. Kindergarten through 2nd grade wrapped up Saxon Phonics and worked through TRS units.
ASSESSMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Spring 2024 State Assessments
AP testing occurred from May 6th to May 17th. BHS offered seven AP courses with the addition of AP Computer Science Principles this year.
Assessment Reporting Dates
TEA's 2023-2024 Assessment Calendar of Events indicates the dates different stages of assessment results will be made available to districts. See the image below for Spring STAAR/EOC and June EOC reporting dates. Click HERE for TEA's assessment calendar of events.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT
New Teacher YOUniversity
We also talked about positive changes each person can make going into the next year to continue to grow and develop as educators. This year's NTY group has been wonderful to work with and the end of the program left everyone inspired and motivated for what's to come.
BISD LEAD Conference 2024
We aim to have the schedule finished before the end of the school year to give the teachers enough time to plan their schedules before they leave for summer break. Additionally, having the flexibility to make adjustments over the summer will help make the conference as effective and engaging as possible. Kudos to Mrs. Haggard and Mr. Dickson for their hard work and dedication to this important event.
New teachers write their "Impact Statements" during the last session of New Teacher YOUniversity.

STATE AND FEDERAL PROGRAMS AND GRANTS
TEA's Data Reporting Compliance Review
TEA's Data Reporting Compliance Unit (DRCU) has completed its review of BISD's 2023 Discipline Data Reporting Compliance Review submission.
The DRCU found our submission satisfactory in confirming accurate and reliable data is submitted in PEIMS. No further actions are required.
Our DDV5 Compliance Review was submitted on March 28, 2024 and can be reviewed HERE. The DRCU's "Findings Report" received on April 30, 2024 can be reviewed HERE.
ESSA Planning Amounts
TEA recently published the ESSA Consolidated Grant Entitlement planning amounts for the 2024-2025 school year. The image below shows the 24-25 planning amounts and a comparison to 22-23 and 23-24 planning amounts.
We will participate in the Region 10 SSA for ESSA grants again this year and plan to continue using Title I, II and IV funds for most shortage stipends and some instructional support salaries. Title III funds will continue being used to improve instructional programs and services for Emergent Bilingual students.
Perkins V Grant Planning Amount
Planning amounts for the 2024-2025 Perkins V: Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act Grant were released in April. Our planning amount is $23,770, which is $229 more than the final allocation for the 2023-2024 school year.
The majority of Perkins grant funds are used to purchase supplies and materials for CTE Programs of Study at BHS and LHR. Between $1,000-$1,500 is typically budgeted for extra duty pay for Cosmetology's "late lab" events during which the Cosmo Lab is open to the general public for after hours services.
SpEd and Dyslexia Cyclical Monitoring Report
The image to the left is a hyperlink to the full report.
TEA conducts a comprehensive cyclical monitoring review once every six years for each LEA. The balanced monitoring review supports positive student outcomes and ensures the LEA maintains compliance with the requirements and purposes of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), per 34 CFR ยง 300.600 State Monitoring and Enforcement.
The special education cyclical monitoring report provides Bonham ISD with findings from the comprehensive cyclical monitoring review and serves as official notification from the TEA that any findings of noncompliance will require corrective action. Noncompliance findings must be corrected no more than one year from the date of notification (for information on the required actions and timeframe for completion, see OSEP QA 23-01).
BONHAM ISD HAD NO NONCOMPLIANCE FINDINGS FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION OR DYSLEXIA!!
It is important to mention that the TEA agent working on our Dyslexia monitoring said Bonham ISD is only the THIRD District she's ever had submit their Dyslexia submissions PERFECTLY THE FIRST TIME. A HUGE thank you to Lauren Lyles and Leslie Bowser for their efforts in ensuring BISD Dyslexia programs and services are compliant and for doing the legwork on the monitoring submission!
The images below, from the full report, highlight the data findings for Bonham ISD.
