Hello, WMS Demon Families,

There has been a lot of action at WMS this summer. We knew we had some sewer work that needed to be completed this summer. However, we had to wait till students were out of the building to learn the extent of the issue so the experts could go into the tunnels and explore more thoroughly.

Our Facilities Direction, Mr. Coon and many contractors continue to work very hard to fix the main sewer line in our building. This sewer line handles 60-70% of the drainage...that is a lot of drainage and critical to be fixed for the safety of our staff and students. There are a lot of steps to this process as this line runs through the kitchen, gym, and main hallway area out to the street. Other lines in the building connect with this main line.

We are so grateful for Mr. Coon, the contractors, and our custodians for their ability to take action right away, be flexible, and use their expertise to problem-solve. They are all working for the common goal of WMS students starting school in the building.

Last year, we kicked off our school year with our 1st Annual Back to School Bash. Due to construction that occurred over the summer, we are going to push our back to school celebration to a few weeks later. Don't worry! We will have our celebration of the new school year! Our Back to School Bash will be August 27th, from 5:00-7:00 at WMS.

To make this event a success, we need your assistance! There are various ways to volunteer such as helping with stations, gather prizes, etc. If you would like to volunteer to help, please reach out to Mrs. Kennedy by emailing her at kennedyk@glendiveschools.org or by calling the Main Office at 406.377.2356.

Last year, during Homecoming week, we gave out spirit awards each day for the students in each grade level that showed the most spirit! The kids were so excited to pick their trophies and showed them off with pride. Here is a picture of a few examples!

We are looking for volunteers to use their creative juices to create fun and crazy trophies for our students. Last year, a couple of parent volunteers work together on the project and made Homecoming week one to remember.

Communication is essential for your child's success. WMS uses two communication resources.

Infinite Campus is the most important resource of communication between school and home. The app you need to download is Campus Parent. Through this app you have access to student grades, attendance, lunch account, messages from our school and so much more. If you haven't previously downloaded and logged in, information will be shared with you from the district. It will come to your email we have on record. If you need to update your email, please contact our Main Office, 406.377.2356. Keep your eyes out for the information to log in as we get closer to the start of school.

Also, we use the WMS website and the Glendive Public Schools app. Through the app, you will receive notifications. A new communication tool in this app called Rooms. Beginning this year, all communications from the coaches will be sent through Rooms. Some teachers may use Rooms as well.

New student sports physicals are needed each school calendar year. GMC is offering them Tuesday, August 6th at 1:00pm. Bring your documentation to your coach the first practice or drop them off at the Main Office to Mrs. Lighter. Each player is required to have a physical to practice.

An Activity Pass is necessary to purchase to participate in sports. We have the following options: $50 pass which allows you to enter WMS sporting events for free, as well as $75 pass which allows you to enter WMS and DCHS sporting events for free. Each student will need to show this pass to get into the games for free. See Mrs. Lighter in the Main Office for more information.

The first practice is August 16th. 6th, 7th and 8th graders are all welcome to participate. We will note the time in our WMS Calendar when we are informed. Coach Sheila Kennedy will share more information for you.

The first practice is August 12th from 4-6pm. Football is for 7th and 8th graders only. Be ready to practice the first day. Coaches will share more information.

Open gym will begin August 14th through the 16th from 4:45-6:00pm in the WMS gym. On August 19th, Open Gym will be from 4:45-5:30pm. A parent meeting will follow. Anyone interested in playing volleyball is asked to attend the parent meeting. The first practice will be August 20th. We will note the time in our WMS Calendar when we are informed. Coaches will share more information.

Locks are essential for the safety of your child's items in their locker. WMS is not responsible for lost or stolen items. We encourage you to buy a combination lock for your child's hallway and gym lockers. We recommend students practice opening this lock prior to using it in the school. This helps students feel more comfortable and confident in the first days of school.

We have published the school supply lists for next year on our school website. You can go to our website, "Menu", and "Documents" or go to this link to get your there in a jiffy! Also, BOSS has our supply lists as well. I have also attached them below!

We are now able to offer online payment through Infinite Campus. More information will be shared through the District Office.
