Torringford's Annual Read-a-Thon
We are thrilled to announce that Torringford’s annual Read-A-Thon is underway and runs through Monday, March 25th! If you haven’t already, please take a moment to activate your student’s personal reader page by clicking on the following link: CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP!
Our goal is to ignite a passion for reading among our students; this year we are hoping for 100% participation from our Torringford families and exceeding our goal of 10,000 minutes read!
In addition to developing a love of reading, the Torringford PTO is offering the following incentives for student participants:
- Classrooms with 100% participation (i.e., all students in class have created an online account) will be entered to win a class prize.
- The classroom with the most minutes logged and dollars raised will win a class prize.
- If our school-wide goal of 10,000 minutes logged is met, the student with the most minutes logged from each grade (K-3) will participate in a special GRAND PRIZE involving our Torringford principals!
During the next two weeks we invite you (and your family members and friends) to make a donation (sponsorship) that will directly benefit your student; all profits raised will go toward student enrichment activities. Digital sponsorships through your student’s site are preferred, however cash sponsorships will be accepted as well (please send any cash in an envelope labeled “Torringford PTO Read-A-Thon Cash Sponsorship” with your student’s first and last name).
Please reach out with any questions (torringfordpto@gmail.com).

Coming Soon!!!
A New Inclusive Playground @ Torringford School!!
What is an inclusive playground?
An inclusive playground addresses the needs of all people, including those with developmental disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder and individuals with intellectual, cognitive, sensory, physical, and other disabilities, and the support group around them. A well-designed inclusive playground does not detract from, but actually enhances the play value for typically developing children and empowers all people to challenge themselves and develop at an appropriate individual pace.
The Pre-K VOICES team has designed and received funding for a new fenced in play area for all to enjoy! Our pre-k students have outgrown their play area and are ready for the challenges of the new playscape, bike path, group swing, and more! We are excited to share our new space with the Torringford community!!!

Spirit Days in Kindergarten
Exciting Things Happen in First Grade
First graders had a blast celebrating Read Across America Week with our fun spirit days! We loved dressing up as rockstars, superhero’s, in animal print, twinning with a friend and of course, PJ day! We loved listening to some of our favorite teachers read books aloud!
Mrs. Campbell’s class made Valentines for Valorie Manor. We love doing crafts and learning about ways to give back to our community!
Ms. Yunt’s class invited family in to teach them how we use our math workplaces to practice our math skills! We loved showing them what we do at school.
Exciting Things Happen in Second Grade
Second Grade Celebrates Read Across America week with spirit!
Mrs. Giampaolo’s class has been working on their fluency skills by reading special parts in a reader’s theater text.
Our second graders would like to give some advice to Torringford’s young readers: Be sure to talk like the characters!
Materials Matter! We have learned about different materials and which ones work best in different climates.
Mrs. Giampaolo’s class pretended they were going to take a class trip to an island by the equator. We designed hats with materials that would protect us from the sun and heat!
Mrs. Henry’s class is learning about different materials and which ones work best in different climates.
Our class pretended that we were going on a tropical getaway to an island by the equator. We designed hats with materials that would protect us from the sun and heat!
Exciting Things Happen in Third Grade
In Math Workshop, third graders are learning how to solve story problems using multiplication and division strategies. Students use square tiles to build arrays. This process allows them to construct a visual representation of the story problem to help determine the answer.
Solving problems in partnerships or small groups on a vertical whiteboard is a strategy known as Visible Thinking. Visible Thinking routines help students to make connections, share their mathematical thinking and communicate their ideas while solving problems.
The 3rd Grade Student Council kicked-off the schoolwide Kindness Campaign in early winter. Money raised from this campaign will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In addition to doing acts of kindness at home, Torringford Tigers also were challenged to do the Kindness Challenge at school, too!
