Ducks Update
Back to School Edition
January 9, 2025
A Note from Ms. de Boom-Howard
Davis Duck Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful and refreshing break with friends and family! I spent my time with my twins and mom exploring the Cambria area, organizing some closets, and reconnecting with friends. By Monday, I was ready to return, as we were all eager to get back into our routines, and there was so much to look forward to at Davis!
We will be kicking off our Arts partnerships with Segerstrom’s Art Teach and Meet the Masters.
Students will continue to go on field trips supported by the District and PTA.
Beyond Athletics will continue to organize sports activities at lunchtime, supported by our Foundation.
5th and 6th Graders will be off to science camp.
Our school musical Sponge Bob Square Pants will be happening 2/28-/3/2.
PTA Family Nights-Bingo Night, Sweetheart Dance, Talent Show, and more!
The Boots and Bling Gala organized by our Foundation.
And so much more…..
Additionally, some exciting construction projects are planned for the summer of 2025! As of now, we are slated for:
New Kindergarten and Upper-grade playgrounds, complete with shade structures.
Updates to all bathrooms
A shaded kindergarten lunch area
A larger shade structure in the upper eating area
New roofs on our campus buildings
Landscaping improvements
These updates will enhance our campus and create even more enjoyable spaces for our students and community. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer!
I look forward to seeing our amazing Davis community next Thursday at our PTA Bingo night! See you there!

Core Value of the Week
As we begin the new year, let’s shine a light on one of our core values: Do Your Very Best. This principle serves as a foundation for growth, resilience, and personal achievement. Doing your very best is not about being perfect. It’s about putting in your best effort, staying determined, and learning from every experience. It’s about embracing challenges, asking for help when needed, and celebrating progress along the way.
Tips to Inspire "Do your very best"
Set realistic goals and break them into smaller, achievable steps.
Focus on progress, not perfection. Celebrate small wins!
Learn from mistakes and view them as opportunities for improvement.
Use kind words and encourage others in class and on the playground.
Let’s make this year a celebration of effort and determination. Together, by doing our very best, we can achieve extraordinary things!
Important Information
Drop-Off & Pick-Up Safety Reminders
To ensure the safety of our students and the efficiency of our drop-off and pick-up process, please keep the following guidelines in mind:
Stay off your cell phone while in the drop-off/pick-up line for everyone's safety.
Students should exit independently on the sidewalk side of the car.
If you need to assist your child, please park in a designated parking spot rather than stopping in the line.
Keep the line moving by following the directions of staff.
For pick-up, place your child's name visibly in the car window to help expedite the process.
Please do not drop off or pick up your child while stopped in the second lane of the parking lot off Arlington Drive.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe and our procedures running smoothly!

Kinder Round Up
We’re excited to announce that the Kindergarten Roundup for all new incoming kindergartners will be held on Tuesday, January 28th, starting at 4:30 PM! This is a wonderful opportunity for families to learn more about the upcoming school year, meet teachers, and get important information about registration and school readiness.
Please help us spread the word to families in the community who have children ready for kindergarten! We can’t wait to welcome the newest members of our school family!
Cell Phone Policy Reminder:
NMUSD Mobile Communication Devices Board Policy (BP 5131.8) was adopted on October 24, 2023, to create a more conducive learning environment that promotes academic focus and engagement and encourages positive social interactions among students. Here is a reminder of expectations for elementary-age students.
Students may not use cell phones, smartphones, smartwatches, or other mobile communication devices during the instructional day. Devices must be turned off and placed out of sight during the school day. Students who need to call parents may use phones located in the administrative office.
If a student is caught on their device, they will receive a warning. In the event of a recurrence, the device will be confiscated and held in the office until the end of the school day, at which point the student can retrieve it.
Parent Choice Transfer- 6th Grade into 7th Grade
The Parent School Choice Transfer request application period for the 2025-2026 school year begins January 15, 2025, and closes on March 15, 2025. A lottery will be held to rank the applications received. Parents will be notified regarding the status of their Parent School Choice Transfer application by email or in writing by May 15, 2025. You can also log into your SchoolMint account for a status update.
All students currently on Parent School Choice Transfers who wish to return to their school of residence for the 2025-2026 school year do not need to complete a new application. To return to the school of residence, you will need to inform the enrolled school to let them know that the student will not be returning.
