Hello DeMello Families!
Happy Friday!
Even though we had Monday off, we've had a week filled with teaching and learning here at DeMello!
The highlight of this week was celebrating Unity Day on Wednesday. Unity Day is a national awareness day to promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion in schools. Each year we recognize this important day with an assembly focused on creating a community of belonging and friendship. A big thanks to Mrs. Kolbeck, Mrs. Aguiar and the 5th Grade Student Council for their partnership with Mr. Hill in organizing a fantastic program! Also, thanks to Mrs. Voci for putting together an engaging slideshow! Teamwork is part of what makes DeMello such a strong school and we are thankful for everyone's time and contributions to events like this!
We have much to look forward to in the weeks to come, including our PTO's Trunk or Treat event (see flyer below), our Pumpkin Book Character Contest (see below for more details) and our annual Halloween Parade. We will be sending out details and reminders soon!
On behalf of the DeMello staff, I wish you a wonderful weekend with your amazing children.
We will see them back on Monday morning!
All the Best-
Mrs. Correia
DeMello Annual Pumpkin Book Character Contest Is COMING SOON!
You may remember that we started a new tradition at last year. With the help of our DeMello Literacy Committee, we launched our first schoolwide Pumpkin Book Character Contest! We invited students to decorate a pumpkin in the likeness of a favorite character from a story. What fun we had!! We are bringing this wonderful event back this year and can only imagine what creations we will display throughout our school. Please see the flyer below for more details. We have small craft pumpkins available to students who need one--please reach out to your student's teacher if you'd like us to send one home. Please be mindful that we have a limited number and make your requests asap!
STILL Looking for VOLUNTEERS
DeMello School needs your help! We are looking for volunteers to assist us at recess anytime between 11:00 and 12:35. Volunteers would be responsible to helping to run games (soccer, football, kickball). Any time that you can give would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to email me at if you are interested in helping ๐
Donations Needed!
Thanks to a grant written by our Instructional Technology Coach, Mrs. Voci, we will be transforming part of the DeMello Library into a makerspace! An alternative to traditional recess, selected students will be able to spend their lunch recess designing and creating with Mrs. Voci. In order to provide students with a range of materials we are asking families to donate some used items their children may no longer play with, such as MagnaTiles, building blocks, Legos, Kinex and craft supplies. No worry about cleaning anything--we will gladly do that๐ Thank you in advance for your donations!
