MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Rothschild Families,
We are officially entering the final quarter of the school year! This time of year brings warmer weather, exciting field trips, state assessments, and special activities—making it a truly memorable season for our students. As we move forward, it remains essential to uphold routines, procedures, and expectations both at school and at home. Consistent nighttime routines and adequate sleep play a critical role in supporting academic progress and promoting positive behavior.
As spring unfolds, please keep an eye out for additional emails from Rothschild and Infinite Campus. With so many upcoming events, staying informed will be key to ensuring a smooth and successful end to the year.
Thank you for your continued support!!
Ted Aleckson
Principal

State Forward Testing
State Forward testing for grades (3-5) continues thru April 25. We ask that students and families make every effort possible to schedule appointments, vacations, and other events outside of our testing windows. Thank you for your considerations.
How to Help Your Student Prepare for the State Assessment
General Preparation
- When possible, it is beneficial to establish a daily routine for meals, homework, chores, bedtime and family time
- Provide students with a designated study area at home
- Encourage students to practice good study habits and set aside time every day for homework
- Ensure students get a good night's sleep and a nutritious breakfast before taking a test
- Offer praise and encouragement for achievement and improvement
- Share your enthusiasm and interest in reading, mathematics, and science with your children
General Test Preparation
- Make sure students have the opportunity to become familiar with the format of the test.
- There is a link to practice tests and sample items on the Assessment Information for Families Webpage.
- Remind students to listen to and read all directions and to tackle the test one question at a time instead of thinking abut the entire test.
- Review Test-Taking Strategies. There are strategies that will help your child do their best on an exam.
- Arrives on time and stay relaxed.
- Encourage students to answer all test questions
- Guessing is alright - it is best to eliminate any answers they know are incorrect first and they chose the best answer from what is left.
- Skip a question - better to skip a question that they are stick on, flag it, and come back to it later that to spend lots of time on something they don't understand or is causing stress.
- Leave time at the end to look over your work. Did you answer every question?
- Remind students to think positively. Being in the right mindset can make all the difference. Encourage your child to think positively when heading into an exam.
- Remind your studnet a test is not a race. Don't worry if others finish before first. They should focus on the test in front of them.
English Language Arts (ELA) Test Preparation
- Read to students and encourage them to read to you
- Have students try crossword puzzles
- Encourage students to read the newspaper, magazines, and recreational books; and to discuss what they have read
- Discuss the events and stories you read about
- Play games that involve spelling and vocabulary (scrabble, apples to apples, boggle. balderdash, etc.)
Mathematics Test Preparation
- Play games that involve numbers and/or computation
- Encourage students to make connections between their everyday lives and what they are learning in math class
- Encourage the use of math everyday through measuring recipes, adding prices at the store, creating a budget, explaining graphs and charts in the newspaper or magazine articles, and taking measurements while doing home projects or sewing
Science Test Preparation
- Encourage participation in science competitions, fairs and other activities
- Explore nature centers, zoos and science museums
- Watch programming that shows the wide variety and interesting things going on in science. (Comos, Modern-Marvels, Myth-Busters, Shark-Week, etc.)

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT NIGHT AT FESTIVAL FOODS
Thank you to all our Raptor students and families that attended our Family Engagement Night at Festival Foods. It was a great time by all!! We want to give a big shout out to all the staff members at Festival Foods, our Be Amazing students for setting up the night before, and families for making this a great night. We had over 125 students and families attend.
MORNING DROP OFF PROCEDURES REMINDER
Building doors and door #2 open at 8:20 AM. Please be mindful of dropping students off prior to this time as some mornings can get very cold!!
When waiting to enter the parking lot, please be aware of your vehicle's location. Please do the best job you can not to block crosswalks and sidewalks in which our students are using to cross streets.
Once you enter the parking lot and are alongside the curb, your students can exit the vehicle if they are old enough to do so on their own. Students that need assistance can wait for an associate to help. We are hoping that this can speed up the drop off process and reduce congestion right away in the morning.
Thank you so much for your help in providing a safe and efficient drop off for students!
SPRING IS IN THE AIR
Hopefully spring is here to stay and we get no more snow!! There may still be snow or mud on the playground so please continue to send snowpants and boots to school with your child(ren). Below is the temperature guide that is used to ensure that students are dressed appropriately for recess. Snowpants, boots, hats, gloves/mittens and jackets are required for all 3K-5 students from the first snowfall until all snow is gone from the playground area. If your child(ren) is in need of any items and needs assistance obtaining these items, please reach out to your child's teacher, Ms. Gilmore, Ms. Gillick, or Ms. Schlagenhaft to connect you with community resources.
ROTHSCHILD PTO MEETINGS
Our school offers many opportunities for parent/guardian involvement. The Rothschild PTO invites parents/guardians to participate in programs, raises funds, and provides an avenue for parents/guardians and teachers to work and socialize with each other. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to attend Rothschild PTO meetings and help with special projects whenever possible. Rothschild PTO meetings are generally held on the second Monday of the month in the Rothschild Elementary School Conference Room #211. Meetings are held from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. ROTHSCHILD ELEMENTARY ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES
ATTENDANCE
When a child is absent, a parent/guardian should call school 715-359-3186, press 1 for attendance voicemail, by 9:00 a.m. to inform the office that the child will not be in attendance. If a family does not call to inform school about a student’s absence, the school will make a reasonable attempt to reach a parent/guardian at home or work. If the office is not able to contact a parent to get an explanation for an unreported absence, the absent child will be recorded as “unexcused”. Police/SRO Zwicky may be called if we are concerned with the safety of the child. After a student has been absent, he or she should bring to school a written excuse signed by a parent/guardian. For doctor or dentist appointments, please bring a slip from their office to have the appointment considered as a medical excuse. Absences beyond five per semester may need a doctor’s excuse. The only excused absences are those due to illness of the student, death in the family, a doctor or dentist appointment that cannot be scheduled after school hours, or whenever the principal considers that exemption from attendance is in the best interest of the student.
STUDENTS WHO ARE TARDY
Children who arrive at school after the attendance bell (8:45AM) will be considered tardy. When such cases occur, parents/guardians should check their child into the office and state the reason for the tardiness. The attendance secretary will make the necessary changes in the school attendance report.
STUDENTS LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY
At times, it may be necessary for you to schedule an appointment or an emergency occurs which requires an early release of your child(ren). Please send a note to school informing the teacher of the early release. Parents/Guardians picking up students during the school day must always check in at the school office and sign him/her out. The teacher will then be contacted to dismiss the student. Parents/Guardians may not remove students from a classroom, lunchroom, playground or location other than the office. Students will not be permitted to wait for parents/guardians in the parking lot or at a curbside location. This procedure will be followed for your child's protection.
CHANGES FOR STUDENT PICK-UP DURING THE DAY
If a parent/guardian needs to change the plan for pick-up/bus drop-off at the end of a day, the parent/guardian must call the office and notify the secretary by 3:00 PM. The secretary will relay the message to the teacher and the student. Do not email the child’s teacher or leave messages on their phone, as the teacher may not get the message before the end of the day.
WE INVITE YOU TO BE A VOLUNTEER AT OUR SCHOOL!
Every day, D.C. Everest volunteers make a huge impact on the educational experience of our students. Volunteers are welcome and greatly appreciated. Whether you are interested in a one-time, one-hour project or an ongoing opportunity, we will find something that fits your schedule, talents and desires.
We continually strive to build a culture of civic engagement across our K-12 curriculum and strengthen connections district wide through meaningful engagement. With safety as a top priority, D.C. Everest has updated how it approaches the use of volunteers who may work with our students. All school sites across the D.C. Everest Area School District (DCE) and Greenheck Fieldhouse Recreational Programming will utilize an automated volunteer management program called Volunteer Tracker to manage volunteer opportunities. Volunteer Tracker allows us to manage our volunteer program across the district, track and recognize the volunteer contributions of community members, send reminders to our volunteers/staff, and conduct criminal background screenings. A snapshot of the different levels of volunteer opportunities and an overview of the application and background check procedures associated with each is provided below. If you have questions about volunteer opportunities at a specific school, please contact the Rothschild Elementary School Office.
For in-depth information related to district volunteer opportunities and/or protocols, please visit the DCE Volunteer page https://www.dce.k12.wi.us/community/dce-evergreen-volunteers
