Hosford Middle School
October 7th - 11th
Dear Families,
We are in full swing school mode! That means students are settled and comfortable, and things may start to go sideways at times. Part of the middle school brain development experience is to test boundaries. As the adults in their life, it is important that we give them space and reasonable boundaries.
At Hosford, testing boundaries will typically show up by not following directions, or questioning, "why". At home it may look the same or different. Consistency in our responses is key, as well as centering care. To read more about how to set healthy boundaries, read here.
It takes a village to raise amazing kids, and all of the Hosford staff are on your side! Let us know if you need help, or have any questions.
Warmly,
Jill Liddle, Principal

Progress Reports: Proficiency Based Grading Key
Progress reports are viewable in ParentVue. Hosford uses proficiency based grading. Traditionally, a student's grade may have reflected a combination of test scores, attendance, homework completion, extra credit, behavior and other factors, and may not reflect student learning of academic content. The proficiency-based approach makes clear what students know and are able to do by measuring academic progress separately from non-academic factors.
What do the marks mean?
HP: Highly Proficient Student consistently hits the learning target with a high level of mastery.
PR: Proficient Student consistently hits the learning target.
These scores are on and above grade level. Students earning these marks are on track.
CP: Close to Proficient Student most of the time proficient or nearly
proficient. Student may show some inconsistencies with hitting the target.
DP: Developing Proficiency Student does not hit the target regularly.
These scores are below grade level. Students earning these marks are not yet meeting grade level standards.
NG: No Grade Student has not completed enough work in class to determine proficiency.
Car Pick-up and Drop off at Hosford
Help us keep traffic flowing and students safe! Please do not park in the crosswalk and follow the map below to keep the flow.
Library Updates
Hello from the Hosford Library! We're excited to have your students checking out our books and enjoying the library space. If you haven't already, please check out our welcome letter for the year!
We'd like to let you know about two things. First off, we have some books still missing from last year. We will be sending out notices this week to students and families with fines on their library accounts. These can be either paid in SchoolPay (we can't accept payment at school) or if the books are returned, we cancel the fines. Please contact us if taking care of these fines is a challenge.
Secondly, we have a wish list for the library, mostly of books that need to be replaced. If you have a moment, please take a look to see if there are any books on the list you might have at home and are willing to part with OR are willing to purchase for us. Thanks for looking!

Funds for Hosford!
So far we have raised $2,491. Please help us reach our goal of $12,000 by donating today!
This is the PTSA's biggest fundraiser of the year and it is happening now!
The no-stuff fundraiser was started in 2019 to celebrate 100 years of education at Hosford. This donation drive allows the PTSA to fund student activities, host staff appreciation events and provide teacher grants for technology, books, art supplies and classroom equipment. In other words, it makes an immediate and powerful impact on our school. Every bit helps!

You can choose to make a one-time donation or set up recurring payments. Thank you!
Hygiene Closet Donations Needed
Hosford Hygiene Closet
The hygiene closet is looking for donations! If you pick up extra deodorant, body wash, or face wash and would like to donate to Hosford, please bring it to the front office. Deodorant is our biggest need, but all unopened hygiene products, socks, and underwear are appreciated. Thank you!

If your child has listening to music as an accommodation on a 504 plan or Individual Education Plan, we have wired headphones that they will wear to access that accommodation. If your child needs noise cancelling headphones, we will have options for this as well.
