This Week at MHS
December 16th - 20th
One Last Spirit Week!
Dear MHS Parents and Students,
It is unbelievable that we have reached the final week of the first semester! But before we go, we still have time for one last Spirit Week. Please reference the graphic above to get all the right items together for the dress up days!
We want to give a HUGE Shout out to our PTSO for their dedication to our students and faculty this semester. On Tuesday during break students will have the chance to get a FREE biscuit or pop tart -compliments of our PTSO. They also have a special treat planned for our teachers to provide just the right feeling to ease into the holidays! We 💖 our PTSO!
The days are running out for you to purchase Black and White Tickets! Please see the information below to ensure you purchase your tickets before they are all gone!
Final Exams will be Wednesday, December 18th and Thursday, December 19th. Wednesday exams will be in 3rd and 4th block. Thursday exams will be in 1st and 2nd block. Thursday is a half day and we will dismiss classes at 11:45am. This half day will only happen at MHS, and any student who does not have a ride home at the 11:45am dismissal, may remain at the high school in the library to wait on the busses that will run at their normal 3:25pm time. Please know this is our policy as posted in the student handbook: “A final comprehensive assessment is required in all courses. All final exams will be taken during the designated testing period unless prior arrangements have been made with the assistant principal’s office. The administration will review requests to take a final exam at a time other than during the designated testing period for unanticipated reasons only such as illness, family emergencies, hospitalization, etc. If such permission is granted, the exam will be administered after the regularly scheduled exam period. Students will not be granted permission to take the exam prior to the designated date and time.”

Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy
MHS Chick-fil-A Leader Academy is excited to announce an opportunity to support teens in our area. On Monday and Tuesday, December 16 and 17, students will be able to drop off personal care items or monetary donations during lunches for the Isaiah 117 House. Our goal is to collect full-sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant, body wash, body spray, and combs/brushes for teens. Feminine hygiene products and any other items students think teens would enjoy are needed as well. Please NO RAZORS, BLADED ITEMS, OR FOOD/DRINKS at this time. We will purchase those items with any donated money. We will also collect donations at the Alcoa vs Maryville basketball games Tuesday night, December 17, starting at 5:30. During half-time of both games, Chick-fil-A is sponsoring a half-court shot. For a $1 donation, participants can attempt a shot to win a CFA gift card. Please spread the word to students and the community! The Isaiah 117 House supports children of all ages during difficult times. You can find out more at www.Isaiah117House.com.

STUDENT CHECK OUT PROCEDURES
Check-outs should be held to a minimum and are limited to the following:
Emergency - Decision to be made by the principal or assistant principals.
Prior arrangement - If a written request is received by officials in the student services office prior to the beginning of the school day, the student will be dismissed at the requested time. The checkout note must include the student’s full name, date, time of dismissal, phone number where parent/guardian can be reached for verification, and signature of the parent/guardian.
- The parent/guardian comes to the main entrance office to sign the student out.
Students who become sick during the school day must report to the assistant principal’s office/school nurse before they call home. The assistant principal’s office will assist the student and permit the student to call home. The student will remain in the assistant principal’s office or with the school nurse until he/she receives permission to go home or until he/she is picked up by a parent/guardian.
Students are allowed to check out during third block only for medical or legal purposes, and proper documentation must be provided. Students are not allowed to check out to retrieve items needed for school. Leaving school without permission will result in disciplinary action.
Students checking out of school on an altered schedule day will receive an unexcused absence unless the school is provided the appropriate legal or medical documentation.
