The Cougar Connection
Lafayette Elementary May 28th
Dear Lafayette Elementary Community,
We hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. Megan had a very busy weekend. I was able to hit the pool, go to a barbecue, shop some sales at REI, and hang with my nephew before he (and his traitorous parents) move to Massachusetts this summer. Robin hung out at the pool and prepared the camper for summer adventures.
Our Colfax Marathon team placed 13th in the public school division and were the second place ladies team overall! Colfax awarded the top 15 teams $1,000 and our school will get a bonus award for being in the top two ladies teams! We are so proud of our team! Shout out to Sue Grant, Molly Quinn, Chloe Schuamaun, Janice Moore and Kim Wright.
We want to extend our gratitude to the staff members who are leaving Lafayette Elementary leaving this school year:
~ Cathy Huey, ILC Para (Happy Retirement!)
~ Chloe Schumaun, Kindergarten (Working on her counseling degree)
~ Andrea Dolan, Counselor (Platt Middle School)
~ Jackie Wachtel, School Psychologist (Special Education reassignment)
~ Lindsey Records, Occupational Therapist (Special Education reassignment)
This year we were able to hire additional staff to support our Intensive Learning Center. Thank you for your service Larissa Milano, Arnold Morgado and Renee Colclough. Lastly, thank you to our tutors Dedra Merrill and Brandon Warren- who we might get to see next year, as well. Thank you to PTO (and our community!) for valuing these critical positions.
Our office team departs for summer on May 31st. The building will be occupied by the bond team and our amazing custodians. We are excited to see some enhancements to our playgrounds and outdoor areas, as well as some improvements inside. Please mind all signs and play safely this summer!
The 2024-2025 school year begins August 14th! We will be communicating with our Lafayette Community in early August.
Have a wonderful summer.
Go Cougars!
Sincerely,
Megan Weir, Principal and Robin Stone, Dean of Students

Class Placements
Teachers try to balance our classrooms to create the best possible learning environments for all students.
Class placement is based on:
Assessment and observation data
Information from previous teachers (if available)
Personalities and friendships formed
We try our best to balance classrooms based on the limited information that we have on incoming Kindergartners. Because we will not have assessment data until August, we will not create class lists for Kindergarten until August, after our Kindergarten Welcome Days.
An email will be sent home on August 16th informing you of which class (teacher) your child(ren) will be in.
