Leader In Me
This week we are learning about Habit 1: Be Proactive. This habit helps teach our students to take responsiblity and ownership of their actions. One way to practice being proactive at home with our students would be to lay out their clothes for school the night before so there is not rushing in the morning.
Nurse's Information
Just a reminder: attendance is essential to your child’s success at school! Throughout the year, there may be health reasons to keep your child home from school. The following guidelines may be help determine when your child should stay home from school due to illness:
Fever of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours
Your child must be free of fever for a full 24 hours without the help of fever-reducing medications (such as Tylenol or Motrin) before sending them back to school.
Vomiting and/or diarrhea in the past 24 hours
Itchy, red eyes with discharge
Rash that has fluid or pus coming from it until treatment has been received, and a note from the doctor states that your child may return to school.
Ringworm of the scalp (until treatment has started)
Head lice (may return after appropriate lice treatment) -Your school nurse will need to check your child’s head before he/she returns to class.
Please encourage your child to wash his or her hands often, use hand sanitizer, and cover their noses and mouths when coughing or sneezing. It is also helpful for your children to get plenty of sleep and to eat healthy foods, especially breakfast.
Always remember that I am available to assist you if you have any questions on whether or not you should keep your student home. We share a common goal – the health, safety, and educational success of your child!
Counselor's Corner
Building Coping Skills
When school starts, some kids might find it difficult to adjust to the back-to-school routine. Give your kids the tools to handle difficult situations and disagreeable feelings. You can have an open conversation with your child about the issues you are facing so they can understand how you are handling the situation. The adult might say, "Oh, my car has a flat tire, and I'm so angry," as an example. "However, I can figure it out and address the issue." The adult can outline the actions they plan to take to resolve the issue.
By discussing the obstacle and looking into potential solutions, you may help your child learn how to solve problems and react appropriately in challenging situations. Even though there are situations where a solution is not possible, training your child to overcome the obstacles in their path will help them become more resilient. Your child's ability to solve difficulties on their own may be aided by demonstrating how you handle issues, even those that are unfixable.
Please let me know if you need any resources, such as school supplies. I am grateful that Kroger on Wilshire donated school supply kits to Mound Elementary. Please let me know if you need one for your student.
Please take a moment to fill out this parent/student needs survey.
