September 2024
We are sailing on....
Happy September!
We have officially sailed off! We have loved meeting our new students as well as greeting our familiar faces. We have been practicing routines and expectations with students these past couple of weeks. Instruction is starting and the beginning of the year assessments have also been given. Before you know it, we will be meeting for report card conferences. In the meantime, let's continue to work together to ensure all students are successful!
For any questions or concerns, I may be reached at sarodriguez@galenaparkisd.com or call our front office to schedule an appointment at 832-386-2220.
Have a sensational September!!!

Attendance Awareness
Did you know that Woodland Acres Elementary had the best attendance last year among all elementary campuses in GPISD? That's right! Our attendance average for last year was at 96.4% for the year!!! This means that on average, a WAES student misses about 5 days a year. I think we do better, don't you agree??? Our goal for this year is to reach 97% or higher! This would mean that out of 167 instructional school days, a student should not miss more than 4 days in a school year. Between our PEIMS clerk Ms. Rangel, our counselor Mr. Barahona, and the campus administrators we will be monitoring closely student attendance. Also, a group of 5th grade students have helped come up with great attendance incentives for the year! I am confident that by working together we can meet the goal for the year! Remember, YOU are essential partners in promoting good attendance because you have the bottom-line responsibility for making sure your children get to school every day.
Spirit Shirts
Students may wear spirit shirts or college shirts on Fridays. Spirit shirts are on sale now! Visit this link to purchase a shirt: https://stores.inksoft.com/woodland_acres_elementary/shop/home
Arrival
Students may arrive by walking, car drop-off, or school bus starting at 7:00am. Upon arrival, all students will enter through the cafeteria doors. Please do not park in the staff parking lot to walk your child into the building. The car rider lane closes at 7:35 am, when the tardy bell rings. After this time, you will need to walk into the front office and get a tardy pass for your child. Excessive tardies can lead to disciplinary action, loss of attendance incentives and loss of student transfers.
Please be mindful of the signage around the campus and streets. The flow of traffic for parents begins off of Sheffield Blvd, down Sarah's Lane and a right turn into the car rider lane. There is an officer on duty and can issue citations for violations.
Dismissal
Please help form the line from Sheffield Blvd and exit by turning right onto Miles St. (See map below.) All vehicles need to have a new car tag. Car tags were given during Meet the Teacher and additional tags can be purchased online via Retrak. (There's a link on our website to Revtrak.) Anytime someone comes to pick up a child without a car tag, they will be directed to the front office and a valid ID will be needed to release a student.
Lastly, any changes to your child’s dismissal routine should be directed to the front office before 2:00 pm and should you need to pick up a child early, the cutoff time is 2:30 pm.
