Hello SMS Families!


Happy Summer to all of you! I hope all are enjoying the sun, outdoors, time with family and friends and a small break from school.


This newsletter hopes to bring some information to our families to plan for upcoming events and important dates for all students for the 21-22 school year.


Please note that our office is out for the summer until August 2. If you have a need, feel free to email me at jboytim@scsmustangs.org and I will be happy to assist and get back to you as soon as I can.


Also, some may notice that PowerSchool switched over to next school year, however, the publicized schedules and team allocations are not quite finalized. It is advised that you make note of final schedules and teams on August 12.


To our new families, Welcome to SMS! This newsletter is sent out weekly during the school year and provides important information, celebrations and ways for you to stay involved at SMS. We look forward to working with you and your student(s).

Important Dates for the 21-22 School Year

First Week of School Important Dates

First Day of School: August 18, 2021 (7:55a.m.-3:00p.m.)


SMS Open House: August 19, 2021 (6:30p.m.-8:30p.m.)

6th Grade Orienation- August 13, 2021

Last Names: A-L

  • Orientation Time: 9:00 -11:30a.m.
  • Orientation Location: Check in at table in SMS cafetera, enter the main doors (students only, parents drop off)


Last Names: M-Z

  • Orientation Time: 12:30-3:00p.m.
  • Orientation Location: Check in at table in SMS cafetera, enter the main doors (students only, parents drop off)


*An email will be sent to 6th grade families at the beginning of August regarding materials students can bring/drop off at orientation to eliminate having students needing to bring supplies on the first day.

New Students (7th and 8th graders) Orientation- August 12, 2021

Welcome to SMS! We are excited to have you and hope to make your transition comfortable and successful. Please join us for an upperclassmen new student orientation on August 12, from 9-10:30a.m. at SMS.


Students will enter in the main doors, check in and go to the SMS auditorium. Parents can pick students up promptly at 10:30a.m. Students will meet with our administrative team, get a printed schedule, Chromebook, meet peers, get a tour of the building and have the chance to walk their schedule.


We look forward to having you part of our school family and meeting you soon! Have a great summer!

7/8th Grade Chromebook Pick-Up- August 12, 2021

7/8th grades students can stop by SMS from 9:00-3:00 on August 12, 2021 to pick up their SCS Student issued Chromebook. Students can access their schedules 8/16 for an updated schedule prior to their first day of school. *6th graders will receive their Chromebook at orientation


If you are unavailable to pick up your Chromebook on this day or attend orientation, students will have the opportunity to get their computer during the first week of school.

Beginning of the Year Office Hours

Office Opens August 2, 2021


Hours: 7:30-3:30

SMS School Hours

Student Entry to Building (Main Doors): 7:40a.m.

School Day Starts: 7:55 a.m.

School Day Ends: 3:00p.m.

Lockers and Locks

Students will receive locker information on the first day of school, along with their lock. Students MUST use their lock and it needs to remain on the locker at all times.


*Students taking PE need to supply their own lock for their PE locker.

Team Assignments

Please note that teams will be finalized and solidified for the year after August 12. You may see a team assignment on PowerSchool, however, this may change closer to the school year. Once your student is assigned to a team, students cannot change teams. Also, due to the amount of students, accommodations, and class schedules, request of teams cannot be made. Thank you for your support.
