Mariner Update Family Edition
Volume 14 Issue 19
Mariner Family,
I love our school, do you love your school!
Our gifts as educators and parents are meant to be shared and used to benefit others; essentially, the purpose of receiving a gift is to give it away to others in service and love.
Dear Mariner Family,
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Faith is taking the first step even when you can't see the whole staircase." These powerful words remind us of the shared journey we are on—one step at a time—toward building the culture and school community we envision for our students, staff, and families.
Every day, we take steps of faith together. We may not always see the full path ahead, but we trust in the vision of what we can achieve as we continue to learn, grow, and build a foundation of success for every student who walks through our doors. With each lesson we teach, each strategy we refine, and each connection we make, we are shaping a future filled with promise and potential.
As we guide our students, we are reminded that the culture we are building is rooted in collaboration, perseverance, and an unwavering belief in one another. Together, we are fostering a community where students feel supported to take bold steps, just as we challenge ourselves to grow professionally and support one another. This shared commitment is what makes our school so special.
Families, staff, and students, thank you for your unwavering faith in this journey. By working together, step by step, we are creating an environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive, every family feels connected, and every staff member is empowered to make a lasting difference. Let’s continue to move forward with faith, determination, and a shared belief in the transformative power of education.
With gratitude and optimism,
Your IHCS Admin Team,
Mrs. Barry, Assistant Principal, and Mr. Castro, Assistant Principal, and Mr. Candelaria, Principal
January Mariner Money/Sand Dollars: Students are earning Sand Dollars for demonstrating WAVE behavior expectations as they evaluate one step equations in Ms. Bellamy’s sixth grade math class. Students will relate equal signs as showing two sides of the equal sign with the same value. Students will recognize how to use inverse operation to strike a balance on both sides. Supervision aide, Mr. Coleman, distributes Mariner Money to students at recess, who are demonstrating WAVE behavior expectations. Welcome, Achieve, Virtue and Excellence! Go Mariners!
January CAMP: Students are learning the value of quarter notes, eighth notes and and “eighth rest.” Mr. Chasteen is teaching them to read the music notes, including the rests, and apply what they read as they play the notes on the shaker percussion instrument. Students are learning how to shade, how to mix colors to get the value or tint that they want with Mrs. Testa, during their art class. They will practice by mixing colors to get 8 different shades, putting the shades on their 8 fold value scale, and these 8 different shades will complete their value scale. Students are reviewing what they have learned and accomplished in in CAMP PE, with Mrs. Rodriguez in 2024, and they are developing goals and planning out their future learning goals with Mrs. Rodriguez. ( Mrs. Harkema’s CAMP Computer Class will be included in our bulletin next week).
LOVE 4 LIFE: Our Love 4 Life Ambassadors club meets every Wednesday after school, with 15 students in both the elementary and middle school classes. These ambassadors are committed to making a positive impact, starting with their peers and community.
Last week, they hosted a kindness-filled event during lunch, featuring a spinning wheel of positive messages. Every student who spun the wheel walked away a winner with an uplifting thought or caring message. Check out the picture of the wheel to see the inspiring messages created by our amazing ambassadors as part of this meaningful event! Thank you Mrs. Santiago, Mr. Llausas, and Ms. Wendy Romero, for guiding this awesome experience for our Love 4 Life student ambassadors each week and for helping them to realize that we all belong to each other and have what it takes to change our world each day.
Science & Engineering
On January 15, IHCS hosted an exciting Science and Engineering Fair, highlighting the creativity and innovation of our students. Many impressive experiments were presented, showcasing the hard work and dedication of our participants. The winners of our Science and Engineering Fair will move on to the Perris Elementary District Science and Engineering Fair on January 22, with the results from both fairs to be announced during Friday Flag on January 24.
