REGION SPOTLIGHT
For the last two years, Region 6 has offered a variety of UDL Brown Bag and UDL Chats. These monthly meet-ups are designed to give educators time to discuss UDL implementation, share examples, and learn more about resources shared in UDL Connections. The next few months will focus on the UDL Design Cycle and the NEW UDL 3.0 Guidelines. These sessions offer a variety of new and innovative ways to support all students by removing barriers to lesson design. Register HERE if you would like to learn more.
DISTRICT SPOTLIGHT
Celina Schools has been chosen by the Office for Exceptional Children and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce to represent Ohio at the 2025 National Student Support Systems Convening in Indianapolis, Indiana. The event, sponsored by Johns Hopkins and the Grad Partnership, highlights schools implementing innovative and effective systems for change by promoting positive graduation and post-school outcomes for all students. Celina's team will share their success as a part of Each Child On Track.
ON YOUR RADAR
1% Alternate Assessment District Justification Portal Now Open Through May 2
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires each district or community school to complete and submit a justification when it anticipates testing more than 1.0 percent of students with the Alternate Assessment for Students with the Most Significant Cognitive Disabilities.
- If your district or community school anticipates testing more than 1.0 percent of students with the alternate assessment in 2024-2025, you must complete the justification and confirm assurances via the link emailed to the district’s superintendent.
- If your district or community school does not anticipate testing more than 1.0 percent of students with the alternate assessment, you must select “No” and confirm assurances via the link emailed to the district’s superintendent.
A template of the justification form is available to assist in the process. Note that the template is only a tool to help prepare the justification. All justifications must be submitted via the link sent to the superintendent.
The deadline for submitting this justification is May 2.
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce will review justifications submitted by each district or community school. The Department is required to make publicly available all justifications upon request. If you have any questions, please contact AAparticipation@education.ohio.gov.
