Week-at-a-Glance

We have officially completed the first month of the school year, and I'm thrilled with what I see happening at Houghtaling! Students and staff are settling into their daily routines, there's an air of excitement in the classrooms and the hallways, and students are impressing us daily with the progress they are making. We know how important positive relationships are to student success, and I'm proud of the relationships we create, foster, and maintain at Houghtaling; whether we're greeting each other in the morning, gathering in our all-school morning meeting, playing at recess, or working hard in classrooms, we strive to be kind, considerate, and inclusive.

Beyond academics, Houghtaling is pleased to offer activities and events throughout the year. Morning Marathoners are busy running on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and we have many activities planned throughout the year: archery club, dance, musicals, Kids' Nights Out, concerts, Goodies with Grownups, talent show, and more! Online Calendar, Text Alerts, Volunteering, and School Website

Know What's Happening!

Houghtaling Calendar: Our school Google calendar is linked to our school website. Feel free to subscribe to the calendar, or check our website often to check on upcoming events.

Text Alert Opt-In: The district sends out text alerts for school closures, delayed start days, etc. Text the word "yes" to the number 67587 to receive text alerts.

Volunteer Applications

Anyone spending four or more hours (over the course of a school year) volunteering MUST complete a Volunteer Application and pass a background check. Please fill out a volunteer application and turn it in to the Houghtaling office ASAP. The background check can take up to one week to complete, so please plan ahead. Want to volunteer in the classroom? Contact your child's teacher. Want to help with larger events? Watch for informational flyers and/or join the PTA!

It's time for the first parent/teacher conferences of the year! Our Houghtaling teachers work hard to schedule conference times that are convenient for parents to attend, and to ensure that these conferences are meaningful and productive. If you can't make it to the building for an in-person conference, please don't hesitate to contact your student's teacher to set up a phone or video conference. The office will be open the following evenings during the week of conferences.

Wednesday, October 9th from 4:00-7:30pm

Please remember that because teachers are working extra hours in the evenings, there is no school for students or staff on Friday, October 11th.

Houghtaling Elementary Bike Club

Do you remember learning how to ride a bike? Do you remember the joy, confidence, and mobility that came with it? Houghtaling Elementary wants to teach kids how to ride! Join our PTA!

The PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is a parent group that supports Houghtaling in a variety of ways: fundraising for and supporting student-centered purchases/programs, volunteering in the school and at school events, and supporting staff. The PTA welcomes all parents/guardians to share their talents and help in the ways that work best for them. PTA meetings are noted on the Houghtaling calendar, and emailing htepta@gmail.com is the best way to find out more about our fantastic PTA.
