THE LEAD DOG
The BHS Newsletter 34th Edition: Monday, May 6, 2024
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL...
*Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to send out "The Lead Dog," 34th edition, until today. My apologies - Mr. Wilson
Students, Parents, Faculty, and Staff,
Whew... the end is near and time is flying by at light speed! We are having another busy week with AP testing beginning, multiple events and celebrations... along with normal school business. Please make sure you are checking emails and reading this newsletter thoroughly. There is a lot of information to disseminate at this time of the year and we don't want anyone to miss out on something.
This week we are celebrating our teachers for "Teacher Appreciation Week". In conjunction with our BHS PTO, we have organized a week of gifts, treats, and meals for our teachers to show them our appreciation. We also celebrate Nurse Gish on Wednesday for School Nurse Day!
"Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher." - Japanese proverb
Thank your teachers this week!
Everyone has a role in our students' education... The students, teachers and staff, the parents, and the community. "Excellence... Under Construction" every day at Boerne HS.
***To keep up with everything "Boerne HS," please check our school website and your school email periodically. Also, follow Boerne HS on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for the latest updates.***

- Baseball swept the JFK Rockets last week to capture the Bi-District Championship in the first round of the 4A UIL baseball playoffs. After the first victory on Thursday, a tight ball game that they won 2-1 in extra innings, the Hounds wasted no time jumping on the Rockets early and often on Friday in route to a 10-0 run rule victory in 5 innings. With the wins they upped their overall record to 24-8 on the year. This week, they will continue playoff action with a 3-game series versus Navasota in the Area round. All 3 games will be at a neutral site, Del Valle HS on the southeast side of Austin. Game 1 will be Thursday at 7 pm, Game 2 will be Saturday at 1 pm, and if Game 3 is needed it will be 30 minutes after game 2. Good luck, Hounds!
- Congratulations to BHS Freshman, Jessica Maani. She was selected to be a Voelcker Scholar for the Voelcker Biomedical Research Program at the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio. See below for more information about this amazing recognition and opportunity.

Band receives Metallica contest winnings!
If you recall, back in January, the Mighty Greyhound Marching Band won the $15,000 prize in the high school medium category in the first-ever Metallica Marching Band Competition. Recently, the equipment purchased arrived, and according to BHS Band Director Dani Person, the prize money was used to buy an entirely new bassline to replace those used since 2010. They also purchased several new instruments, so the incoming freshmen all have instruments for the marching and concert season. Five TAMA brand drums were included in the 11 items of equipment (pictured above).
Watch the "Thank you, Metallica!" video below...
Freshman, Jessica Maani, selected as Voelcker Scholar
Jessica Maani, was selected to be a Voelcker Scholar for the Voelcker Biomedical Research Program at the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio. Each cohort is extremely limited as for acceptance, as it is all of the San Antonio area's top students competing for a spot. The Voelcker Biomedical Research Academy will be seeking the very best rising high school Sophomores (current Freshman in 2023-2024 school year) to partner with outstanding biomedical scientists from UT Health San Antonio to promote excellence in scholarship and biomedical research training for a 3-year period.
Jessica's acceptance was not a surprise to her Biology teacher (Mrs. Campbell), as she stated, "Jessica is an amazing student, but this was still great news!"
Congratulations Jessica! Boerne HS is proud of you and this amazing academic recognition!
