Press Release - 4/1/2024
K-Bar Agricultural Learning Center Open House
April 25th, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Eagle Point High School is excited to announce our K-Bar Agricultural Learning Center Open House! The event will be held on Thursday, April 25th from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the new K-Bar Agricultural Learning Center. This event is open to the community and includes a jackpot stock show, a variety of interactive Ag Science activities, appetizers, and a special donor recognition at 5:30 PM.
The K-Bar Agricultural Learning Center is a steel building of roughly 100 feet by 200 feet. The building comprises an arena, a work area of 80 feet by 150 feet, storage rooms, restrooms, offices, a vet med storage room, and two classrooms. The project cost just under $2.6 million, funded largely from community donations and state grants. The community donated around $1.6 million, State grants provided $875,000, and the School District contributed $125,000. The Morris Family Foundation made the first major donation to kickstart the project, and the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians generously donated $1,000,000 to make it a reality!
Final invoices for the project are still coming in and donations from the community are still being received. The project was designed by local Architect Dan Horton.
Major milestones of the project included:
Engineering and Design was completed in June of 2022.
The application package was submitted to the City of Eagle Point in July of 2022.
The Eagle Point School District hosted a Community Meeting on August 23, 2022, to address concerns that our neighbors had expressed. The community meeting was attended by 17 people.
The City of Eagle Point Planning Commission held a Public Hearing on September 20, 2022, and approved our Ag Sciences / Vet-Med Building and Arena project, with several operational conditions including no overnight boarding of animals and no commercial use of the facility.
We advertised the project for bid in October 2022, with bids due November 29, 2022. We received four bids for the project, evaluated bids, and awarded the project to Vitus Construction. Vitus Construction ordered the steel building and then commenced site prep in advance of receipt of the steel building to allow the project to move forward quickly. Construction occurred mostly in the Spring and Summer of 2023.
Vitus Construction achieved substantial completion of the project just after the start of the 2023-24 school year which allowed our students to start using the new classrooms and arena facility in October 2023.
