Dr. Ronald E. McNair ES Parent News
March 2024
Dear Dr. Ronald E. McNair ES Families,
We had a heartwarming February filled with exciting events that brought joy to our school community. First and foremost, let's congratulate Sainandika Nair, 5th grade, for emerging as our Dr. Ronald E. McNair ES Spelling Bee champion for the 2023-2024 school year! Alongside Sainandika, we applaud Sathie Jindasa and Aaron Namata for securing second and third place, respectively. A big round of applause to all our classroom winners and students who bravely participated. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated staff and parent volunteers, whose efforts made our classroom Valentine's Day parties a resounding success. Love truly filled the air on that special day! Thank you to everyone who dressed their best and joined in the fun at the PTA Family Fun Dance. While not everyone could snag a raffle prize, we hope you enjoyed the event. Lastly, our staff showcased their excellence during Dr. Ronald E. McNair ES Curriculum Night, Camp-Learn-A-Lot. It was a delight to witness families engage in educational games and participate in informative sessions on supporting learning at home. This event was seamlessly integrated into Read Across America Week, where our school spirit soared as we embraced school-wide time dedicated to reading each day. Special thanks to the PTA for providing scrumptious s'mores snacks!
As we step into March, another month brimming with exciting Dr. McNair events awaits. First up is our Kids Heart Challenge week, an opportunity for our students to learn about the importance of heart health. Stay tuned for more details in the newsletter. Our fifth graders will be taking the Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA) and Maryland State Department of Education Survey. The MISA is administered to all students in fifth grade, eighth grade, and high school and is aligned to the Maryland Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Our 5th graders will be taking the MISA on March 6 and March 7. March culminates with International Night on March 22, a vibrant celebration of the diverse cultures that enrich our school community. Additionally, it's time to prepare for the upcoming school year. MCPS' Kindergarten Registration kicks off on March 18. We'll provide more details in our April newsletter, but we need your help spreading the word! If you or your neighbors have a child who will be 5 by September 5, 2024, please encourage them to begin the registration process. We can't wait to welcome your kindergarten child to Dr. Ronald E. McNair ES with open arms!
Finally, the month of March heralds the beginning of spring. On Saturday, March 10, please remember to set your clocks forward by one hour, as Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 11. Also, mark your calendars for Spring Break, starting on March 25, with students returning on April 2.
We look forward to great things happening for our students this month. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email both Mrs. Moses (Sherilyn_R_Moses@mcpsmd.org) and Mrs. Graber (Jessicabay_Graber@mcpsmd.org).
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sherilyn Moses, Principal
