BCE Bear Mail
Friday May 10th
Message from Principal Fippin
Hello BCE Community
Thank you to all that have helped make teacher appreciation week so special. I know I can speak for all the staff on how special we all felt. Everyone went above and beyond and we are so thankful for all you did to make the week as magical as it was.
It was a great 1st week of CAASPP testing for our 3rd-5th graders. They all did great. We have one more week, then make-ups.
Next Friday is our annual carnival. It is such a fun event. Please see below to get your early bird wrist bands. We hope to see everyone next week.
We had a fun game of Kickball today at lunch. Teachers vs. 5th grade. Always so fun to get out and run around the kids :)
Have a wonderful weekend. 18 Instructional Days of school left :) Count down is on
I can be reached best by email at gfippin@slvusd.org

BCE Pollinator Garden and Native Restoration Project
BCE is excited to announce that we have started the process of planning and planting a native pollinator garden!
We are working with the Valley Women’s Club to restore the land and garden near the accessible ramps and under the redwood trees across from the Kindergarten buildings. This will happen in several phases.
Phase 1 in spring will include removal of the nonnative bushes in that area and prepping the soil. Removal of the bushes will happen on Saturday, May 27th. Things will look a bit different on Monday morning! In May, 4th grade classes will help prepare the soil for fall planting.
We look forward to all the learning opportunities for students at BCE in this project.
SAVE THE DATE for The SLV Music & Art Festival, Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024, 4-8pm at Roaring Camp!
The 3rd annual SLV Music & Art Festival is an outdoor, community event that features performances by: SLVHS choir and bands, SLV Nature Academy Band, SLVE and BCE 5th grade bands, and the SLV Community Band! There is an art show and sale (by donation) put on by the SLVHS Art Department! There will be food trucks and also silent and live auctions that support the SLV Music Boosters. Please come and celebrate community while supporting our growing student musicians and artists!
Attendance
As you know, attendance is extremely important. That said, we understand children get sick and may miss some school. We notice some students are missing an excessive amount of school due to illness.
If your student is out for more than three days we do require a doctor's note. You can scan & send the document to our health aide, Kat, at kgafford@slvusd.org. You can send a screenshot to (831) 252-1491 or you can bring the document to us in person.
This is extremely important so please save the paperwork from any of your appointments and submit that documentation in a timely fashion. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Should you have any questions please contact Kat at 338-6413 extension 149."

Volunteers
We are excited to have volunteers back on campus. All volunteers need to be cleared with the appropriate paperwork from the office. The office is happy to help if you have questions about your volunteer status.
If you can volunteer this year, we would love to have you. Please speak with your teacher and office staff. All volunteer schedules need to be approved by classroom teachers before volunteers begin in classrooms.
