I say Minoan you say Mycenaean
Mrs. Bower's World History students learned how to use video as a means of instruction. Students partnered with another and watched 2 short educational clips about the Minoans and the Mycenaeans as predecessors to the ancient Greeks. Strategies were practiced to solidify student skills when learning about topics through film.
6th grade data collection
In Mr. Linnabary's class, students used Skittle colors to collect data. They then organized and presented their findings in tables and graphs.
Isaac Newton experimentation
Student's in Mr. Oyster's Science class learned about the impact of gravity during a lab this past week as students documented the velocity of falling objects.
The Golf team!
The Golf team competed at the Pine Hill Invitational this weekend. Scoring for the warriors were: Caleb Fee-97, Dalen Gerhardt-97, Wes Maynard-97, Emma Booher-112, Aiden Hensley-113, and Harper Roshon-116.
A shocking experience
Students in Mrs. Plant's class learned about electric currents by experimenting with a Van de Graf machine for a hair raising experience.
Start with Hello week
Students participated building wide in Start with Hello this week. Each day a thematic concept was explored to bring attention to 'isolation'. Students ended the week by signing a pledge to start with hello.
Surviving Middle School for Parents
This week's "Smart but Scattered teens" topic is organization. What parent has not pulled their hair out waiting for their child to develop some sense of organization. Lost school assignments, messy bedrooms, and the constant question of 'where is my? (fill in the blank)' Sound familiar? Read through the tips sheet and see how you can potentially try out some strategies to support your kiddo. One concept to consider, many times as parents we compensate for our child's gaps in EF skills by inserting ourselves to compensate for the deficiency. In essence, we are allowing the child to borrow our brain; however, we have many years of practice and experience behind our mindset. Consider fading support to allow your child to take greater ownership over their organizational skills. Certainly this has to start with modeling for them.
