Challenge #10:
News You Can Use
Did You Know
Seeking Powerful Development Team Members: We are currently seeking staff members interested in planning and implementing initiatives that will have a positive impact on our students and staff while simultaneously developing and strengthening their leadership skills. PD Team members provide input into our focus on literacy. Members will be provided professional learning opportunities including conference attendance, potential EPER pay, and/or snow hours. If you are interested in being a member of the Powerful Development (PD Team), please email Dr. Reynolds.
CTSO Competitions: Preparation for our CTSO statewide competitions are in full swing. CTSOs are an important part of our CTE curriculum and our goal every year is to send our students into competition feeling prepared and supported by their CTE instructors and our St. Georges staff. Please feel free to approach our CTE instructors or Jamie Williams to see how you can support our CTSO efforts.
Positive Office Referrals- As content area classes are changing at the start of the second semester, don't forget to recognize students that are exemplifying our core values by submitting a positive office referral. A new student in your classroom will appreciate your acknowledgment of their contributions to the St. Georges Way.
School Psychologist Newsletter: Please check out the newsletter from our school psychologist posted below. Tenika provides excellent information about the importance of brain breaks. Also, she gives examples of how to appropriately incorporate brain breaks.
Professional Responsibility-Punctuality: A reminder that being punctual is a professional responsibility. Staff members are expected to FOB in by 7:30 am at Lindsay Gliniak's desk. If you have any questions or concerns about this expectation, please see your immediate supervisor.

See below about Mayda Berrios, SG alumni, making an impact and recognized by the Governor during his recent State of the State address. See picture above.
"I think we can all agree that our children should be our focus. And there are perhaps no children more vulnerable than those in our foster care system. Mayda Berrios is in the audience today. Mayda spent several years in foster care and graduated from St. Georges. Today, she’s a sophomore at Delaware State, and president of a campus organization that mentors children in foster care. Mayda has had to pull together the funds to pay for college. In keeping with Tracey’s goal of giving every child a “First Chance” of success, we’re working with Representatives Griffith and Longhurst and Senators Poore and Lockman to help students like Mayda. Our proposal will waive tuition and fees at Delaware Tech, Delaware State, or the University of Delaware for students who age out of foster care." ~Governor Carney

Avast Ye Shipmates! This Buccaneer Received a Shout Out!
Congratulating to Allison Diodati, Monica Cohen and Nikki DiBuono on successfully completing the 2019 Delaware Teachers Institute seminar. Participation in seminars requires over fifty hours of a teacher’s time which results in a unique and exciting curriculum unit designed for their students. These units will be published for other teachers to use as well. ~Shanta Reynolds
"Thanks to the wrestling coaches for putting together a Teacher Appreciation Night. It was refreshing to bring that kind of positivity to such a chaotic time of the year, and the students were so sweet in what they shared about their nominees. I hope it becomes a new St. Georges tradition!" ~Anonymous
"A special thanks to Jess Bell for continually pushing the TedX project forward. Jess is doing an outstanding job planning, organizing, and communicating information to the staff to ensure that there is an understanding of the expectations and outcomes of the undertaking." ~Shanta Reynolds
