PRO: Perseverance, Respect, Ownership March 2025
Moving into March
Spring is just around the corner, and March is shaping up to be a busy and exciting month at TMS! As we welcome longer days and (hopefully) warmer weather, March is a great time to dive into a good book! Since itโs National Reading Month, we encourage students to set personal reading goals and find engaging free reading books.
We value your partnership! If you're interested in volunteering or attending upcoming meetings, check out our website for more specifics. As always, thank you for your support in making Turner a wonderful place for our students to learn and grow. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. Also, donโt forget to set your clocks forward for Daylight Saving Time on Sunday March 9, 2025.
Parent Portal Access Information
Dear Families,
As we continue in the winter season, itโs important that your contact information in the Parent Portal is updated to receive any communications regarding school closures or school delays. Please add emergency contacts to your childโs profile also in case you are unable to pick up your child if school is closed early.
Annual Family Check-In
The Annual Family Check-In (AFC) Link is available on Campus Parent from March 3, 2025 and closes April 25, 2025.
A parent/guardian in the studentโs primary household must review and sign the permission forms for the upcoming school year. The parent/guardian must also review (and update as needed) the studentโs household information, emergency contacts, and health information.
The AFC will show the Attendance Boundary school, IF you have received and accepted a Choice Enrollment seat, please complete the AFC and the registrars will update the enrollment.
Log in to your Campus Parent account here.

TSD Superintendent Search
Dear Thompson School District Stakeholders:
As you may know, the Thompson School District Board of Education has begun searching for our next Superintendent of Schools to follow Dr. Schaffer when he leaves us at the end of the current school year.
The Board has hired McPherson & Jacobson, a national school superintendent search firm, to assist us in finding the most qualified candidates available. As part of this important work, the Board has asked our search consultants to gather information and comments from stakeholders. So we would very much appreciate it if you would take just a couple of minutes to answer a few questions through an anonymous online survey. You can access the superintendent search survey by clicking this link. The survey will remain open through March 12, 2025.
Thank you for your support,
Thompson School District

Incoming 6th Grade Students:
- We will be hosting a family information night at TMS on Wednesday, April 2 from 5:15-6:15 PM.
- Students from both elementary schools in the community will be visiting TMS on May 14 during the school day.
6th grade
Hello 6th grade parents! CMAS is quickly approaching, and we are trying to help students get into the habit of charging their Chromebook every night. Please check to see that your student has a charger, a good place to charge their Chromebooks, and help get them into the nightly charging habit. If they have lost their charger, new ones can be purchased in the TMS library from Mr. Hanes. We appreciate your help at home!
Also, students are still running LOW on supplies. Please check in with your kids and see if they need a refresh on pencils, pens, etc. Thanks!!
In Literacy News:
In ELA, students are finishing up their Technology unit and will be writing their final essays before Spring Break. Please have your student check their grades often and congratulate them on their hard work and dedication! After the break, we are excited to begin our unit on Extraordinary People, where we will be reading a variety of literary genres and crafting a research essay. We are so excited to see what your students discover!
In Social Studies News:
In Social Studies, students have finished up our Early Conquest Unit. We are doing a brief study of National Parks and why they are important to preserve. We will be starting to study the Great Lakes in the United States and Canada to prepare for a full class debate near the end of the month.
.
In Math News:
Students just wrapped up their Garciaโs House project in the Math Focus classes and they turned out GREAT! Students will have a chance to share their projects with one another to appreciate all of the hard work that went into these. In the 6th Grade Math classes kids recently wrapped up a unit on solving equations and we are jumping into our unit on integers and graphing. Fairly soon we will be reviewing geometry and statistics concepts to get ready for state testing.
In Science News:
In Science, our Geologists are exploring the Rock Cycle and other Geologic processes. We have started with the types of rocks, then we have eaten these rocks in the Chocolate Rock Cycle Lab. We will explore plate tectonics, continental drift and Alfred Wegener in the near future. If your student asks to go to Devils Tower, Wyoming or Garden of the Gods in the Springs, you have your kids' science class to blame. Thanks for the work and ROCK on!
We are also beginning to collect supplies for bottle rocket projects beginning in April- if your household has any 2-liter bottles, please send them to school with your students for building purposes.
7th grade Encounters
Whatโs Up in 7th Grade?
Our 7th graders have been busy diving into some exciting topics across their classes this month! Lately, theyโve been exploring poetry and crafting informative essays, rolling the dice with probability, stepping back in time to feudalism, and discovering how nature stays in balance with relationships in ecosystems.
Want to know more? Ask your student about what theyโve been learningโyou might just get a fun fact or two!
Check Infinite Campus for Missing Workโฆ
To ensure students stay on track, please have your child visit Infinite Campus to review any missing and/or incomplete assignments. Staying up to date with their work will help them succeed as we move further into Quarter 3.
8th grade Adventures
In 8th grade Social Studies students have been researching Western Expansion and the trails that brought Americans west. Students are creating a map of a selected trail, such as the Oregon Trail or Mormon Trail. Using information from their research they are creating illustrations on their map. After conferences students will begin to explore the forced relocation of Native Americans, such as the Trail of Tears. This will all lead up to a summative assessment at the end of the unit, where students will look at primary sources and explain the importance of Western Expansion in American History.
In Science class, students are wrapping up with their Chemistry Unit and moving on to Forces and Motion. More recently students have been working through the signs of a chemical reaction and exploring everyday applications of these reactions. They have also been practicing balancing a chemical reaction formula, combining Science and Math to support what they had learned about the Law of Conservation of Mass. As we move into Forces and Motion, students will practice a variety of formulas to calculate speed and acceleration. They will create a Comic Strip to represent Newtonโs 3 Laws of Motion and go outside with a giant slingshot to show how mass affects an objectโs projectile motion. Also, because April is quickly approaching, we will sprinkle in a bit of Science CMAS preparations and questions each day to try to get students in the mindset for the upcoming tests.
