Dear South Parents and Guardians:
Welcome to May! As we head into our last six weeks of school, we ask you to partner with us in speaking with your child to remain focused and end the year in a positive manner. With the weather changing and summer fast approaching, it is easy for students to lose focus on their work and make silly behavioral mistakes. We would like all of our students to participate in our fun end-of-the year events. For this to happen, students need to keep on top of their academic responsibilities and follow the Cardinal Way.
Congratulations to all of our South students who participated in the State Science Olympiads last weekend! South came in 14th place at state! Please view the section below for further details.
South students will be taking the Spring NWEA MAP test on May 6 and 7, 2025. Please see the section below for further details.
A reminder to all students who ride bicycles to school to be sure to lock your bicycles up at SMS as we’ve been seeing a lot of unlocked bicycles. Please also remind your child that they MUST cross busy streets at the stop lights or stop sign. Please talk with your child about how to safely ride or walk to and from school now that the weather is getting nicer.
Have a great week!

Polish Constitution Day
The Polish Constitution is the world's second written constitution. On May 3, 1791, shortly after the U.S. Constitution was adopted, the Polish Constitution was approved by King Stanislaw August Poniatowski.
Unfortunately, the Polish Constitution did not last. Despite that fact, the Polish Constitution of 1791 is commemorated for what it represents—the Polish spirit devoted to truth, justice, and freedom.
Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo is a yearly celebration held on May 5, which commemorates the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. The victory over the French army was a morale boost for all of Mexico.
Memorial Day
Memorial Day* is a federal holiday in the U.S., observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.

South Science Olympiad Fundraiser
Help South Earn $2,500!
Become an annual member of the ABC/25 Foundation for $40 during registration and help South secure the $2,500 Membership Incentive Grant! This grant is awarded when 25% of the school’s families become members of the ABC/25 Foundation. In previous years, we have utilized this grant to purchase cushioned blocks for the hallway, providing students with comfortable seating while they work or wait between classes. We also upgraded the sound system in the Multipurpose Room and installed a television to display announcements and showcase the accomplishments of former students in the foyer!
Your membership, along with any additional donations, helps fund another grant program specifically geared towards AHSD25 teachers, providing exciting new resources for the classroom! Our previous teacher grants have included upgraded sound equipment, podcasting equipment, video cameras, HUE cameras & mini studio photo boxes for stop-motion animation, and so much more!
Your membership covers all District 25 schools that your students attend, plus you’ll receive free access to the ABC/25 STEAM events!
