Empowering All to Become Life Long Learners

Happy Spring in Emmett School District!
Message from Superintendent Woods
Spring 2025
As spring arrives, I want to thank everyone who makes our schools a great place for students to learn and grow.
To our teachers – thank you for your hard work getting students ready for spring testing. Your time, energy, and care make a big difference.
To our parents – thank you for making sure your children are at school every day, ready to learn with their classmates.
To our principals and staff – thank you for guiding and supporting our teams. You help keep our schools focused on what matters most—students.
As we look ahead to the end of the year and summer, we’re focused on giving students and staff more choices and flexibility. We want every student to have the chance to grow both in learning and in life.
In Emmett, we believe in meeting students where they are and helping them reach new goals. Our district is adapting to change, and we are staying committed to every student, every day. That means working hard to improve and provide strong public education for all.
Thank you for being part of this important work.
Craig Woods
Superintendent
Emmett School District
ParentSquare is Coming!
We’re excited to introduce ParentSquare (and StudentSquare for grades 6-12) as our new district-wide communication tool!
Why the change?
Starting next school year, ParentSquare will replace ClassDojo, Remind, TeamSnap, Facebook, and more, bringing all communication into one easy-to-use platform for parents, teachers, schools, and coaches.
This platform was carefully selected by a committee of staff, teachers, and parents who reviewed our communication needs and explored the best solutions. After thorough research and peer review, ParentSquare was chosen as the best fit for the Emmett School District.
What Can You Do On ParentSquare?
ParentSquare allows you to:
- Receive school, class, & district updates
- Send and receive direct messages with teachers
- Share and view pictures & files
- Stay up-to-date with calendar events
- Sign up to volunteer
- Schedule parent-teacher conferences
- …and much more – all in one place!
Coming Soon!
This spring, some of our amazing teachers and coaches have volunteered to be early adopters of ParentSquare. We will let you know if your student's class is part of the early adoption and will guide everyone through the next steps of making this transition. If you would like to know more about ParentSquare, why it is being adopted, and the positives it will bring to our district, please tune in to 48:35 on the recording of the February school board meeting.
We're excited about ParentSquare and are confident it will make school-home communication easier and more effective for everyone! Stay tuned for more details!
Emmett Remote Academy Expansion!
Understanding that students and families have different educational needs and wants, we are excited to offer a variety of educational options within the Emmett School District. Next year, ESD will be offering an online school option for grades K-12.
While Emmett Remote Academy already offers online options for secondary school students, we are in the process of expanding to also include elementary. More information will be available as we move forward.
If you are interested in online school for your elementary student, please contact Assistant Superintendent Bob Hyde at bhyde@isd221.net
Black Canyon to become new School of Choice!
Also new next year, Black Canyon Junior Senior High School will be transitioning to a new format. A new school-of-choice model will replace Black Canyon. Students will be able to take classes that offer flexible pacing and instruction more individualized to a student's areas of need. This focus will include strong academic goals with a pathway to graduation and future success. Students who wish to attend will go through a required admissions process to be accepted to the school.
Students facing disciplinary or other temporary challenges will utilize a separate program from the new school. This program, called Turning Point, will assist students in transitioning back to their home schools, whether that be Emmett High School, Emmett Middle School, or the new school of choice. Turning Point will be a program to support other schools, not a permanent schooling option. This model has been found to be successful in other districts, such as Vallivue, and we are excited to incorporate a similar idea into Emmett’s educational landscape.
Stay tuned for more details about our new school of choice, Turning Point, and next year's exciting, new structures and opportunities available to our students.
Emmett Middle School Annex Roof Project
Emmett Middle School HVAC
Wright Brothers Construction is in the preplanning stages of the HVAC system for Emmett Middle School.
This project is funded by the School Modernization Fund through HB521, which provided Idaho school districts with funds for facility improvements. These funds must be used according to specific guidelines and requirements.
ESD will be working closely with Wright Brothers Construction as they assess what is needed and design a solution to meet the need created by existing systems that are original to a building 70+ years old. (The original building opened in 1954!!) Cost estimates, plans, and lots of decisions are still to come.
We are excited to be moving forward and even more excited as we look forward to a completed project that provides our students with an updated, comfortable, healthy environment conducive to lots of learning.
Baseball Press Box In Progress
If you come out to the Emmett High School Baseball field this spring, you might notice something different - A new press box!
The project is currently in progress and is funded entirely through donations and volunteer work. While it is not yet completed, the snack shack is fully operational and ready to serve visitors. The baseball program is excited to have this new addition to the field.
Thank you to all of those who have and are helping make this project possible!
Principal for a Day 2025
A huge thank you to all of our community members who participated in the 2025 Principal for a Day event! We hope you enjoyed your time in our schools and gained insight into the daily experiences of students and staff.
Participants spent the morning in schools, getting a firsthand look at our classrooms and learning environments. The day wrapped up with a delicious lunch at PR2TA, prepared by the talented culinary students!
We had an amazing group this year and truly enjoyed hearing your feedback and experiences. Your support means so much to our schools!
Want to be a part of Principal for a Day? Stay tuned for next year’s event—we’d love to have you join us!

EHS Student Jeni Hammon - U.S. Senate Youth Program - Idaho Delegate
Do you recognize these locations?
Jeni Hammon, a senior at Emmett High School, was one of two Idaho delegates to be awarded a $10,000 scholarship and enjoy an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. in early March. These are a few of her pics as she represented Idaho in D.C.!
Jeni was selected as one of only two delegates from Idaho after an extensive competitive application process involving essays, tests, and interviews. The U.S. Senate Youth Program is a prestigious opportunity for outstanding high school students interested in public service.
We are so proud of Jeni and the way she represented her school and the community at the state and national level!
Bravo to EHS Drama
Congratulations to our EHS Drama! They gave an outstanding performance of Clue - High School Edition! We loved it and were so happy to see the community enjoy it too!
Hats off to all the dedicated individuals who poured their hearts into making this production a resounding success. From the actors to the crew, your hard work and dedication shone through with an amazing set for lots of laughs.
It was a joy to watch the amazing talent on stage, and we want to give an extra special shout-out to a talented group of seniors who treated us all to an impressive final performance. We appreciate all of the talent, hard work, skill, and organization it took to create such a high-quality production.
We have such talented students in our schools, and some pretty phenomenal staff to guide them to achieve great things. This production was one amazing example.
Big Congratulations to the Butte Saga Yearbook Staff
On March 11, the Butte Saga yearbook team at Emmett High School was honored with the Walsworth Gallery of Excellence Award—a prestigious recognition of outstanding scholastic journalism, yearbook design, and storytelling.
Under adviser Molly Worek, the team took bold creative risks this year—and it paid off. Congrats to our incredible student staff for making history! This award is a huge milestone for the yearbook program, and we are so proud! Thank you to everyone who contributed to making Volume 90 one for the history books!
Emmett High School goes to Washington D.C.
Over spring break, a group of EHS students took learning to the next level with a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Washington D.C.! From the U.S. Capitol and Arlington National Cemetery to the memorials, Holocaust Museum, National Archives, Mount Vernon, and even a ghost tour through old-town Alexandria—this adventure was packed with history, inspiration, and unforgettable memories.
These Huskies represented Emmett with pride and curiosity every step of the way! Tour guides even complimented them on being such a great group!
A huge thank you to Mrs. Molly Yates and Mr. Zach Hall for organizing, chaperoning, and creating such an incredible experience for our students.

We have a lot to celebrate from this school year, and we have a lot still to accomplish! It can be easy to get caught up in the spring busyness and forget that sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference.
Every day, 4th grade Carberry student, Westlee Hunter Smith, helps a kindergarten student get in the bus line and then on the bus. He zips up the kinders' backpack and gives him things that he earns at the PBIS store. He doesn't know the younger student, except that they ride the same bus.
When asked why he takes care of this student, he says, "He just seems like someone that needs a little extra help."
What a great role model for seeing a need, taking care of it, and not expecting it to be someone else's responsibility to help. Maybe we all need to notice the someones who "need a little extra help" and then be the special someone who makes a difference.
We're wishing you a happy spring filled with all of the little things that make a big difference. May you notice the someones who help you and your children, and may you be the someone who sees others and steps up to make a difference for those who need "a little extra help."
Special thank you to Westlee Hunter Smith for providing a wonderful example for us all.
