Principal's Update
Metal Detector Program
The School District of Palm Beach County’s metal detector pilot program is underway. This additional layer of security and risk reduction will be implemented in District-operated high schools in phases, starting officially at West Boca Raton Community High School on Monday, April 8, 2024, through the end of this school year. The goal is for all high schools to begin the 2024-2025 school year with full implementation of the metal detector program. As we prepare for April 8th, we will be setting up the detectors early this week to get our cadence down for school entry improvements.
Students, staff, and campus visitors will be expected to continue to adhere to the District Student Code of Conduct, School Board policy, and local, state, and federal laws regarding the prohibition of weapons on School District property. Persons who enter School District property remain subject to search, and violators are subject to penalties under applicable laws.
Metal detectors will be in place at two campus entry points, our single point of entry between the Welcome Center/ Main Office and the Bus Loop entrance to the School.
• Some items, such as laptops, musical instruments, or other large metal items will need to be removed from backpacks before walking through the metal detectors.
• Designated staff members will be available to direct students, staff, and visitors as they enter the campus.
• If the metal detector activates while a person walks through it, the person may be subject to an administrative search. In cases where the activation appears to be related to improper entry or exit through the device, a person may be redirected through the metal detectors a second time.
Class of 2024 Graduation will be May 14, 2024 at 1pm!!
