BON VOYAGE!
Year 7 Ebblinghem Visit
Year 7 students have settled into their stay at the famous Château d'Ebblinghem, located in a small village in the north of France. The culture rich itinerary includes visits to a local snail farm, the Museum Dunkerque, which houses a rich collection of military memorabilia and a Chocolate Factory in Beussent. C'est délicieux!
Year 8/9 Saronno Visit
Students experienced a day in an Italian school, enjoyed delicious homemade feasts and explored the vibrant city of Milan where they visited San Siro stadium, the Duomo, and enjoyed some shopping! Our adventurers also visited the stunning Lago Maggiore, hopping between three beautiful islands by boat. They ended the week at Lake Como, cruising to the charming town of Bellagio.
Year 8/9 Dinan
Students have been enjoying beautiful Dinan, a town in Brittany, northwest France. It’s known for its medieval ramparts, cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses. They have cruised down the River Rance , toured Le Fort La Latte and explored the St Mont Saint Michel. We hope they make the most of their weekend with their French exchange partners.
Year 8/9 Madrid
Our Year 8/9 students are visiting Madrid and have already enjoyed the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site of Toledo. The students had a guided tour of the city learning about some of its history. They will also be visiting the Madrid Football Stadium: Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and the Museo Reina Sofia Museum. Safe to say they have been immersed in Spanish history!
Year 8/9 Cadiz Visit
Students have happily reunited with their exchange partners from Puerto Real, Spain. Both groups of students have enjoyed meeting the mayor in Puerto Real, visiting the Giralda Tower and Alcazar in Sevilla before experiencing the beautiful beaches and cathedral in Cádiz. All that remains is to visit Jerez and the Royal Andalusian Equestrian School!
Year 8/9 Granada
Students visiting Granada have enjoyed their visit to Cordoba touring Mezquita and Alcazar. They are looking forward to spending the weekend with their Spanish exchange partners and their families and learning more about family life. We look forward to hearing the improvements that they have all made to their Spanish!
International Fringe 2024
This week we've had our International Fringe Week for those students in Years 7 to 9 who are in school. We've been exploring different themes in each year group to give students a truly cross-curricular experience of each topic.
Year 7 - Mind, Body, Soul and Community - "What shapes who we are, what we know and how we know it?"
On Monday they worked with Science, exploring the nature around the school site and helping to improve our allotment. Sociology and Psychology led them to explore who they are, creating impressive posters and performing in the amphitheatre in the afternoon a song or poem that reflected who they were. Wednesday gave the students the opportunity to develop their understanding of the importance of maintaining healthy bodies and team work to develop our community. The Geography department carried out fieldwork with the students in nearby Hyde Hall Woods allowing students to establish their attachment to our local area and their sense of place. On Friday the students looked at their languages and how these allow them to interpret the world around them and how at Anglo we are so fortunate to be able to communicate in such a variety of languages.
Year 8 - "How have we been changed by, and changed the Americas?"
Students have taken a tour across Central and South America, explored the political and demographic differences between the UK and the countries of the Americas, researched the impacts of slavery, colonialism, tectonic activity and pirates and admired South American poetry, literature, rocket science and so much more.
Year 9 - "Making the world a better place socially, environmentally and economically"
The students have engaged in a project spanning the week producing an idea of how to make the school more environmentally friendly. With our upcoming rebuild, this is an area that we are actively exploring with the project developers so are looking forward to seeing the students' concepts. They have also looked at the impacts of pollution on wildlife, how to utilise the circular economy and other strategies to reduce our carbon footprint. Coding and strategies to reduce racism and other division in society were also explored.
The students have been working hard throughout the week and have impressed staff with their willingness and enthusiasm to engage in this cross curricular style of learning, making good links between the different subjects approaches to the topics.
UCAS Discovery Fair
On Wednesday 8th June, Lower Sixth students attended the UCAS Discovery Fair. The aim of the event was to help students decide on their next steps and this experience forms a crucial part of our destinations curriculum; with alumni guest speakers, apprenticeship workshops, interview preparation and personal statement writing all to be taught. At the event, students spoke to university ambassadors about their courses, to employers and apprenticeship providers about what an apprenticeship is like and to qualified careers advisers about making a suitable choice. The Lower Sixth will now be buddied with an AES destinations mentor, who will help students to prepare their applications.
We are excited to announce that we will be hosting our 50th Big Lunch on Friday 5th July 2024. Students will be invited to wear non-uniform on this day with a £1 donation that will be put towards buddy benches that can be enjoyed throughout the year. This can be paid via ParentPay in the usual way.
The lunch will take place during Period 4 for Years 7, 8 and 9 and Period 5 for Year 10 and Lower Sixth. Ice-cream vans will be joining us on school site which will take either cash or card. You are welcome to bring whatever you would like to enjoy your picnic, including a blanket to sit on. Picnic lunches will be available for purchase in the dining hall at £2.50 – there will be no other food available on this day.

Invitations have been circulated to those students who will receive awards at our upcoming Awards Evenings to be held on:

We are extremely proud of all these students and look forward to celebrating their successes at this very prestigious event. Invitations have been circulated on Edulink, so please ensure that you check your emails and respond to accept your place at this event.
Donation of School Uniform
As we approach the end of the school year, we are reaching out to ask for your support in an important initiative. Many students outgrow their school uniforms before they wear out, and we would love to give those gently used items a new life by providing them to families in need.
If you have any items of school uniform that your child has outgrown, but are still in good condition, please consider donating them to our school. Your generous donations will help ensure that all students have access to the appropriate attire.
How You Can Help:
- What to Donate: Gently used school uniform in good condition (no tears, stains, or excessive wear).
- Where to Donate: Please drop off your items at School Office during school hours.
Thank you for your generosity and for helping us foster a supportive and inclusive school environment.
We have been busy preparing for our big 50th Anniversary Celebration Event on 21st June. Our work experience students have been helping with displays and organising our very extensive and interesting historical artefacts. Please let us know if you would like to attend this event by emailing enquiries@aesessex.co.uk
