Holy Spirit Academy
January 2025 Newsletter
Principal's Message
We are ready to get back to learning at Holy Spirit Academy and have a calm month planned to help promote a smooth transition into the building for students. The results are in, and HSA had a fantastic report from our previous school year, you can view them here. Later this month, we are holding a "Numeracy in the Workforce Week." There are details below under Academic Excellence, and more information will come from your child's teacher!
Please remember to bundle your children up this winter. There are still a few extra hats, mittens, and snow gear available for those in need. Our school follows CTR's Administrative Procedure on Inclement Weather when it comes to indoor/outdoor recesses, found here. We continue to do our best to promote a safe and caring learning environment at HSA.
Later this month, grade 4 parents will be receiving instructions on Alberta Education Assurance Survey and CTR Faith Survey; this information will be sent via email this week to grade 4 parents. Also, our grade k-3 students will participate in Alberta Education's Literacy and Numeracy Assessments; there is more on this below under Academic Excellence.
I wish you all the best in 2025. Take care and God bless.

Many & One
HSA staff and students will implement CTR's Many & One initiative this school year. It is an ongoing commitment to stakeholders that all students, staff, friends, and families who enter the school are welcomed and supported. We are committed to making ourselves available to listen, speaking with kindness and consideration, standing in solidarity with those who are marginalized, and learning and promoting the learning of others. Our Catholic Social Teaching for this month is Subsidiarity. Grade 6 students will develop their leadership skills by presenting to classes on our "Take 5" Conflict Resolution approach as a refresher to start the new year.
The next Children's Choir Mass is at 11:00 am on January 12th and then again on February 2nd at St. Francis de Sales. All are welcome to join. Please arrive at the church at 10:00 am for a practice. See Ms. Rorke for more information.

Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media
Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools (CTR) has developed a Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media administrative procedure shaped by input from students, parents, guardians, administrators, and staff to ensure our schools reflect our Catholic faith's call to foster a welcoming, respectful, and safe learning environment. This procedure emphasizes reducing distractions, promoting responsible technology use, and supporting mental health while enhancing face-to-face interactions. A reminder that at Holy Spirit Academy any personal devices and electronics are stored in student backpacks throughout the course of the school day.
