Adviser Meet Ups return Nov. 4 or 6
With a quarter of the school year behind us (gulp!) this is the perfect time for advisers to gather to discuss issues, ask questions, and make connections that can help them all year long. We began hosting informal adviser gatherings last year and we hope you can put one of the fall's options on your calendar.
Nothing to bring but your curiosity, and CSMA will provide the food! There is no formal program. YOU create the agenda, or just gather to laugh and/or commiserate.
Colorado Springs area: Patrick Moring will host Monday, Nov. 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Old Chicago Pizza and Taproom. It’s at 7115 Commerce Center Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80919. It’s right off I-25. Patrick has had quite the fall, first being named CSMA Adviser of the Year and just this week being named the Special Recognition JEA National Broadcast Adviser of the Year. He advises a range of broadcast platforms at Rampart HS.
North Denver/Boulder area: Annie Gorenstein Falkenberg will host Monday, Nov. 4 from 4:30-6 p.m. at The Lazy Dog off 144th and I-25, 14618 Delaware Street Westminster, CO 80023. Annie is soon to become CSMA past president and advises the yearbook at Longmont HS.
Grand Junction area: Megan Fromm will host Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 4-6 p.m. at Old Chicago, 120 North Ave, Grand Junction, CO 81501. Megan is JEA Educational Initiatives director and the CSMA Media Literacy committee chair. She advises the “Orange & Black” at Grand Junction HS.

Celebrate media literacy all week
Media literacy needs to be part of our daily planning, but Oct. 21-25 is the "official" Media Literacy Week celebration.
Check out the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) on their Facebook page or on Twitter.
The Journalism Education Association is a Media Literacy Week Partner. Lots of great things in the works.
For regular posts and teaching ideas, sign up today for The Sift, from our friends at The News Literacy Project. Get their weekly newsletter in your inbox each week.
Check out the most recent issue of The Sift. Packed with great ideas for you and your classroom.
Looking for free images of the climate strike?
Not to mention, a host of resources to help get your reporters started on their environmental reporting? Earth Day Network, with whom CSMA is partnering this school year in the build-up to the 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day, offers Google Drive folders of images and a media kit.
A shareable link to photos of climate strike is here, and you have blanket permission to use these in print or online. The suggested credit line is "Photo by Earth Day Network, with permission."
You have either joined for this school year or been contacted about CSMA renewal
Can't remember if you have renewed or joined? You can always check out current membership list on our site. It is up to date through Oct. 23.
If you want to cut down on nagging emails from Jack about membership, please put joining or renewing on your short-term TO DO list. We have loads of great opportunities (beyond J-Day) for member media, from our ONE DAY contest to Capitol HIll Press Conference, to our spring contests and summer critiques... and more! Be part of one of the nation's most active state associations. We are stronger together!
Colorado Student Media Association memberships are by school medium, and we offer four options: print news, yearbook, online, and video media. A single membership is $65. We offer a convenient online membership form, and you can choose either to pay with a school credit card or ask to be invoiced.
