Hello Foster Families
Kindergarten Update - August 11, 2023
Hello Kindergarten Families,
Welcome to Foster! We are very excited to open our doors and have an amazing start to the school year! Here is some information to help you plan for the coming school year.
Popsicles with the Principal: On August 28 from 1:00-2:00 PM Mr. Scheufele will be at the school playground giving out popsicles to our incoming kindergarten students. This event is for our kindergarten students only. You will be receiving your classroom assignment on August 18, so you will know who your child's teacher is. Students should wear their classroom color to the event:
Mrs. Maguire's Class - Red
Mrs. Pappone's Class - Blue
Ms. Rapson's Class - Yellow
Our incredible PTO will be distributing school t-shirts to the kindergarten students during this event.
New Families Welcome: This will be held on Thursday, August 31 @ 1:30 beginning in the Gymnasium. Here we will assign a fifth grade tour guide for those of you who are new, so that you will be able to find your classroom to visit. It will be followed by a visit to the classroom, which will be open to all families @1:45. If you did not get your T-Shirt at the popsicle event, you will be able to pick up your Foster School T-Shirt in the cafeteria. This event ends at 2:30.
Kindergarten students start school on Thursday, September 7. On Wednesday, September 6, we will host a "Meet and Greet". One important part of what we want to accomplish is to give the staff time to meet with both you and your child in their classroom. Additionally, even if they are not riding the bus, we like to give them an orientation to riding the bus. There will be times (field trips) when students would be riding the bus from the school to another destination. While the students are on the bus, this will give you time to meet with the teacher as a group. It is our opportunity to begin our working relationship with you as the children begin their educational journey. You will receive an email through sign-up genius from your classroom teacher to sign up for one of the two times for our orientation: 9:15 or 10:30. The orientation will take approximately one hour.
Specialists (Art, Music, Spanish, Gym, Computer Science, Library): All Hingham’s elementary schools operate on a six-day cycle. Your child’s teacher will send home a monthly calendar with the specialists’ days marked so that you know when to send in sneakers, library books and other pertinent items.
I look forward to seeing you August 28 if you are able to make it! If you cannot, we will meet soon enough. Enjoy these last few weeks before your child starts their academic journey here at Foster.
Mr. Scheufele
