Career Exploration Day!
The culmination of our unit on careers is Career Exploration Day, Friday, May 10! The 2nd through the 5th grades will be learning about and exploring many diverse careers from 8:30-11:30, then after lunch, from 12-1:30, the kindergarten and first-grade classes will have their Career Fair. Students and teachers will rotate to different stations as they learn about different careers. Students will hear from parent volunteers about careers in a variety of professions.
They will learn what drew people to these professions, the education, and training needed to pursue these professions, what motivated people to seek these careers, what a ”typical” workday entails, and the pros and cons of these careers.
Best of all, students will have a chance to ask questions! It is a great opportunity for our students to learn about the variety of opportunities in the workforce and how people can follow their interests to enhance the world they live in! You may want to ask your student what they learned today!
As in past years, we will have a helicopter, I can't wait for it to land! How about you? Watch the sky just after 7:30 am. Mr. Stearns, Mr. Campbell, and Mrs. Woods will land their helicopter on the Sunset 4th/5th grade playground. Please remember to stay back and stay safe! They will have a special guest with them, I can't wait to see who that is! Hopefully, they will not get called out so they can stay all day. Since this is a Friday, they will depart around 1:30, so watch the sky again!
A huge shout out to our presenters for being at Sunset Elementary School to share their talents and knowledge with us! We appreciate you so much!

From Our School Nurse
No student medications are allowed to be kept at school over the summer months, therefore if you left medication at the school for your student to take this school year you will need to collect the
medication(s).
PICK UP BY:
- Friday, May 24 - Students who only have "as needed" medications (nothing daily & no emergency medications; i.e. cold medications, Tylenol, allergy meds, etc.)
- Friday, May 31 - Students who take daily medication or have emergency medications (i.e. inhalers, Epipens, seizure meds)
Any medication not picked up by Friday, May 31 at 1:35 pm will be discarded. The school nurse cannot send any medication home with your student so parents will need to make arrangements to pick these up yourselves. Please call me if you have any questions.
Thank you and have a happy, sunny summer!

Preschool Liaison
A note from Brooke Sieg, PCSD 6 Preschool Liaison:
Spring has sprung and May is finally here! I hope you take a moment to read through the May Community Newsletter, which has the May Liaison Program schedule, LOTS of incoming kindergarten information, Cody public library calendar, and more!
Adopt-a-Pilot is back!
We are happy to continue working with the Adopt-a-Pilot program for the 6th year! Mr. Ted Gonzaga, a Southwest Airlines pilot, began paying weekly visits to our 4th grade classrooms April 17. In May the 4th grade will host him May 7 and again May 8, which will also include an Adopt-a-Pilot celebration.
The Adopt-a-Pilot program supports teachers in reinforcing the importance of school and how the power of hard work and commitment are essential to achieving dreams. Pilots lead activities in the Adopt-A-Pilot curriculum by making lessons in science, geography, and math come alive, demonstrating to students how these subjects can be applied in “real life.” Students track their "adopted" pilot's journey during the time that he or she is "on the road." We are happy to have Mr. Gonzaga back at Sunset School!
