Notes from the WGIS Principal

Dear WGIS Families,

Thank you to everyone who came out and joined us for Open House this week. We had a great week of learning and continuing to come together as a WGIS learning community. On Friday, we had our first fire drill and capped off our first full week with our 5th Grade Celebration! Thank you to the PTA for putting on a great event for our 5th grade students and for all the parents and caregivers who came to pick up students at the end of the event!

Next week (9/16-9/20) we will continue to practice our evacuation drills. On Friday (9/20) the Varsity Football team will have their home opener. Just a reminder to all WGIS (and CMS) families that any non WG High School student at a home WG football game must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Other events coming up will be our first PTA meeting on Wednesday at 6pm in the WGIS library and picture day(s) on September 25 and 26 (see below for more picture day information).

We had a great turn out for the informational meeting this past week. A reminder to make sure you sign up for the musical google classroom which is run by Mrs. Knowlton so you can find all the information you need for auditions and information moving forward!

Our 5th Grade Celebration was a success! Students had a great time being able to spend time together and continue to form new friendships. Thank you to all of our volunteers for making this event a success!

This week we will have our first monthly meeting in the WGIS library at 6pm. All are welcome to join the PTA and this meeting!

This year, we will be using Second Step to promote positive character traits in our students here at WGIS. Each week, we will focus on a new character trait. Students who exemplify the character trait of the week will have an opportunity to be recognized on the Friday announcements and be featured in our weekly e-news.

This upcoming week, we will be recognizing students that exemplify safe behaviors throughout the school day. We hope you can discuss the importance of being safe, amd making safe decisions both in and out of school.

This week, we recognized students who went out of their way to meet new friends and greet new students. Congratulations to our Positivity Paw winners; Tristan, Andrew, Riley and Emma!

Safety is a top priority at WGIS. Please continue to use caution during student drop-off and pick-up times. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding that we need to ensure the safety of all students.

We had our first evacuation drill of the year this past week to practice our evacuation routines to be prepared should there ever be a fire emergency where we need to evacuate the building safely. We will continue with additional evacuation drills this week (9/16-9/20) to practice these routines.

Picture day at WGIS will be 2 days this year, September 25 and 26. We are finalizing the schedule for what students will have their picture taken each day but there will also be flexibility in the event your child is not in school one of those days. There will also be a picture re-take day in November should any student not be able to have their picture taken.

Be on the lookout for a seperate ParentSquare message with Picture Day information later this week.

Thank you to our school counseling team for putting together a "WGIS Parent Guide - 101" for new families to WGIS. This was shared previously via ParentSquare and is once again attached here for everyone to take a look!
