Voter registration is a quick and easy process, but must be completed before the October 15th deadline. You can complete your registration through the WV Secretary of State’s Office. It is not only a right, it is a responsibility!

- Robert Byrd - The longest serving Senator in U.S. History. You have probably noticed the wealth of buildings, roads and facilities that carry his name.
- Jim Justice - The current governor of WV earned a golf scholarship to Marshall and graduated in 1972 with a degree in Business
Did you Know?
The Memorial Student Center Fountain at Marshall University was dedicated to the memory of the 75 victims of a 1970 plane crash which carried the Thundering Herd Football Team, Coaches and Support Staff. Each year on the anniversary of that fateful day – November 14 – a memorial service is held, which includes the traditional laying of the wreath. Then the water is turned off until next spring.

Pierpont Community & Technical College's main campus is located in Fairmont, WV. Military Branch of the Month - Marines
The United States Marine Corps is known for its elite combat forces and amphibious operations. Established in 1775, the Marines are renowned for their rigorous training, discipline and readiness to respond to crises. The Marines are a component of the Navy and operate on land, air and sea, carrying out missions ranging from humanitarian aid to combat operations. With the motto of "Semper Fidelis" (Always Faithful), the Marines sustain a tradition of honor, courage and commitment.
Notable US Marines
- Bea Arthur - the late actress had a successful career on TV, playing Maude and 'Dorothy' in The Golden Girls. During World War II, under her birth name Bernice Frankel, she served in the Marine Corps as a truck driver and typist.
- John Glenn - More recognized as the first to orbit the earth, Glenn was a decorated Devil Dog, with six Distinguished Flying Crosses and 18 Air Medals as well as the Congressional Space Medal of Honor
- Ted Williams - considered by many to be the best hitter in baseball history, Williams served in the Marines as an Aviator during WWII and the Korean War.
- Hershel "Woody" Williams - A life long West Virginian, Woody Williams saw action the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was awarded the Metal of Honor for his bravery clearing Japanese pill boxes on Iwo Jima.
Did you Know?
The Crucible is a 54 hour challenge the tests a cadet's physical endurance, mental fortitude, and critical thinking skills. It is the final challenge before earning the title of United States Marine. During the Crucible a recruit is faced with sleep deprivation, limited food, physical exhaustion, 48 miles of hiking, 8 physically and mentally demanding events and simulated casualty evacuations. The goal is to test the effectiveness of a recruit's training and simulate combat zone situations.
