Congratulations to our Salem High School 2024 Homecoming King & Queen Anthony Bethea and Shiloh Small.
-SHS Food & Nutrition Staff Honored
Congratulations are in order for our hardworking Salem Cafeteria and School Nutrition staff, lead by Ms. Kimberly Flanagan. They were recently awarded the prestigious Cafeteria Award of Excellence by the State of Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). As described by the GaDOE (2024), this newly established award is aimed at recognizing the work of local school nutrition professionals for their exceptional attention to serving quality school meals and providing excellent customer service while maintaining program integrity. Up to three awards per Regional Education Service Agency (RESA) region are awarded.
The SHS faculty, staff and students celebrate with them and certainly appreciate the cafe staff for their commitment to excellence in the daily preparation of our meals.

-Dual Enrollment Night
RCPS will host a Dual Enrollment Night October 8th at 6:30 PM for students who will be in 10th -12th grade next school year.
Dual enrollment programs give students the opportunity to take college-level courses and earn both high school and college credits at the same time. Students not only get a head start on their college education but potentially save time and money by reducing the number of courses they need once they enroll in college. Dual enrollment can also help students transition more smoothly to college life by exposing them to the rigors of college courses.
Please makes plans to attend this meeting if you are interested and/or have questions regarding dual enrollment. The meeting will be held in the Salem Auditorium.

HBCU WEEK ACTIVITIES
-HBCU Discussion Panel
For National HBCU Week (Sept. 15th-19th), the Counseling Department hosted a HBCU Discussion Panel on Wednesday, September 18th. The panel was made up of some of our very own SHS Faculty & Staff members who attended a HBCU:
Kalum Harris (Prevention & Intervention) - Florida A&M
Kymm Haynes (ELA) - Southern University
Taylor Hayles (ELA) - Clark Atlanta University
Avalier McColumn (AVID) - Fort Valley State University
Takia Rice (ELA) - Albany State University
Panel members shared their experience with college life at a HBCU, offered advice, and answered questions that our very engaged SemiNOLES had for them. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on their future choices.
AUC College Tour
Our SHS Counselors had a busy week as they also traveled with a group of our junior and senior class SemiNoles to tour the Atlanta University Center (AUC), which includes Clark Atlanta, Morehouse, Spelman and Morehouse School of Medicine.
Shoutout to our counselors for their commitment throughout the school year to ensure students are well-informed about the diverse options available after high school. Their guidance and support are truly invaluable and deeply appreciated.
SHS Spirit Week 2024 Recap
As another SHS Homecoming comes and goes, let's take a look back at how our SemiNoles enthusiastically expressed themselves during HOCO Spirit Week. Both our students and teachers went all out with their outfits, showcasing their creativity and school spirit.
SemiNOLES Football Dominates for HOCO Win!
From the opening kickoff to the final buzzer, our football team showcased their relentless determination to bring take the 'W' during the Homecoming game. The NOLES clinched a 45-20 victory over Glenn HIlls High School (Augusta). Way to Go SemiNOLES!!
Homecoming Finale: Dancing the Night Away
And just like that...another Homecoming comes and goes. It was a spirit-filled week for our SemiNOLES that ended with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, Sept. 21st.
Students showed up dressed to impress with an enthusiasm to celebrate together. The dance was a night to remember, filled with laughter and unforgettable moments that truly captured the spirit and pride of being a SemiNOLE!
-Faculty & Staff Appreciation Lunch
As part of our Homecoming Week festivities, SHS administrators treated the faculty & staff to a grilled lunch to show their appreciation for all their hard work and dedication! The team had a variety of options, including beef or chicken hotdogs and beef, turkey, or veggie hamburgers. The lunch also included chips, a sweet treat and drinks to complete the meal.
Faculty & Staff members where very grateful for the grilled lunch and the opportunity to enjoy being outside of the building.
CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHT: CTAE GETS REAL
-Students on a Budget
The objective of this activity is for students to explore how they make financial choices through an engaging game. Students use beans to represent their income, which they allocate to different expenses. It helps students to understand that each day the choices we make are based on what we value as important by assessing whether our time, energy, and money is worth it.
Students will discover what is most important to spend money on and how their personal experiences and values affect their money management decisions. Ms. Sigman remarked on how enjoyable it was to hear the insightful conversations students had about making responsible financial decisions based on their needs rather than their wants. This is a very REAL and powerful lesson on making mature and practical decisions.
-MJROTC Lends a Helping Hand
Teaching our students the importance of community service builds character. Thank you MSGT for always going above and beyond to pour into your cadets to ensure that they understand the value of giving back. Your dedication will inspire them to become compassionate leaders in their community.
