Harrowsmith PS Weekly Update
May 17th, 2024
Our athletes have been training hard for the regional Track and Field meet on May 28th. A huge thank you to Ms. Mayhew and her team for all of the time that they have volunteered to ensure that our athletes are as prepared as they can be for the Meet. Hoping for some lovely weather.
Parent Council continues to plan for the Fun Fair :) They are certainly appreciative of the donations that have been made already and for those parents who have offered to assist on the night of the Fun Fair (June 13).
I wanted to let you know that the first part of our staffing process has been completed, and I am happy to share the teacher grade placements with you. Please know that the staffing process is ongoing, and the information may be subject to change. The creation of the grade breakdown is a complex process that starts months ago and involves several versions prior to being approved by both the Board and ETFO.
Staffing for this September has been approved based on our projected numbers, allowing us to organize the classrooms. Please understand that this process will go through several revisions up to the second week in September when we confirm our actual enrollment.
Here are the current classrooms for 2024/25:
- JK/SK Ms Hendry
- JK/SK Ms Abbott
- JK/SK Ms McCullough
- Grade 1 Ms Smith
- Grade 1/2 Ms Pixley
- Grade 2 Ms Mayhew
- Grade 2/3 Ms Harding
- Grade 3/4 Ms Gerics
- Grade 3/4 Ms Kelly
- Grade 4/5 Ms Ranson
- Grade 5/6 Ms Pond
- Grade 6/7 Mr Palmer
- Grade 6/7 Ms Vogelzang
- Grade 7/8 Ms Bly
- French Immersion Ms Phillips
The creation of class lists is also a very complex part of planning for next year. Staff spend a great deal of time and much thought and care completing the composition of classrooms. Some key factors that we consider when determining class placement include:
· a student's academic profile
· behavioural needs of individual students
· emotional needs of individual students
· equal distribution of students with unique learning needs
· class size
· friendships
The criteria above act as a guide for decision-making and help to ensure that a very careful, thoughtful decision is made for every student's placement, based on their profile within the context of the entire classroom and student population. Our teachers work with your children in a classroom setting and have detailed knowledge regarding their social-emotional and learning needs.
As always, please feel free to contact should you have any questions.
School Day
A reminder that field trip permission forms and payments are completed through School Day. Please make sure that your permission settings in the School Day program allow for notifications so that you don't miss field trip emails.

The chart above shows the gift baskets that each class are doing for our Silent Auction.
2024 2025 Medical Forms
We are in the process of sending home the medical forms for the 2024/25 school year so that families will have the opporunity to have the physician portion completed over the summer months. It is the policy of LDSB that these forms be completed each school year. Please be aware that we will be unable to administer medication without the updated forms.
Should your child have a recently diagnosed medical condition and you require forms, kindly contact the office at 613 372-2026.
