The Roadrunner Review
May 3rd, 2024
Notes from the Principal
Teacher Appreciation Week will be celebrated next week from May 6th to May 10th. We are so grateful for our staff here at Riverview as they are dedicated individuals who deeply care about each student at our school. Teachers demonstrate thoughtfulness, kindness, devotion, and dedication in their work. They are not only hardworking professionals but also exceptionally compassionate individuals who work together to help our students become the best versions of themselves. They provide continuous academic and behavioral support day in and day out and we are so appreciative of their dedication to education. Teaching is undeniably challenging, but our teachers here at Riverview make it seem effortless because of their passion for their work and their desire for the best outcomes for every child in their care. We take immense pride in our entire teaching staff and thank each and every one of them for doing what they do!

Dog Therapy Teams at Riverview
Did you know that Riverview has two Dog Therapy Teams? Mackenzie Hau and Atlas have been supporting our students since the beginning of the year and Buddy and Mrs. Budny have teamed up as well. Both dogs have been certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dog organization and also have their AKC Pet Therapy license. What do they do throughout the day? They greet students at the door, join classrooms, provide emotional support when needed, and also brighten our students' days! Both teams also volunteer in the community by visiting nursing homes, long-term care facilities, hospitals, and homes for those who need a little extra comfort.
Another important part of having these teams in the schools, is to educate students how to approach an unknown dog. Our students have learned to:
1. Ask the owner if it is okay to pet the dog
2. Let the dog smell them
3. Pet on the back first, and then other parts if the owner gives permission
Our students also know that they don't have to pet Atlas or Buddy if they don't want to, they can give them a wave or say "hello!"
If you have any more questions about our dog therapy teams or would prefer your children not to visit with them, please reach out.
Leader in Me - May
Our support staff team led our all-school assembly this Friday, May 3rd and we are focusing on good sportsmanship during our last month of school. This is a reflection of the 8th LiM habit, which is finding your voice and inspiring others to find theirs.
During recess, if students are showing good sportsmanship, they will receive a ticket, and there will be only 60 tickets handed out! These tickets will be put into a drawing and 20 tickets will be drawn and those students will have an opportunity to play in a kickball game vs. the staff. Let the games begin!
Track and Field Day Information
Our 3rd – 5th grade students will be having a track and field day at Wausau East High School on Friday, May 10th. The students will ride the bus from Riverview and arrive at East to begin events at 9:30.
The first event will be the 400 meter run. Field events will follow and students will be moving among the field events they have selected in the morning. Students should bring a cold lunch and a water bottle. If a school provided lunch is preferred, please communicate this with their classroom teacher. Please do not send colored Gatorade or juice. After lunch at approximately 11:30, running events will begin. At this time, all students need to be sitting in the bleachers with their grade level. We want to be sure to account for the safety and whereabouts of all students. Also, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. We will be outside from 9:15-1:30. Students should dress in layers, as the day can start out chilly. Most importantly, make sure they have sunscreen on (a hat is also highly recommended).
Parents are welcome to attend this event. We kindly ask that you do not bring pets. Please be aware that we cannot give you exact times when your child may be running. The order of running events in the afternoon is as follows: 100m, hurdles, 60m, relay and mile fun run.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call 715-261-0030.
