The Weekly Roar
March 19, 2022
We Ran, and we ran, and we RAN!
Congratulations on our Jogathon!!
Thank you to everyone who participated in our annual Jog-a-thon. Our community came together in a beautiful way. Our La Ballona Lions ran and ran and RAN…and in doing so, they raised more than $54,000 for our school! Each and every one of our families should feel proud of what we’ve accomplished together as a community. With these funds, the La Ballona PTA can continue to support things like Pali Camp for our 5th graders, after-school programs like chess and tennis, our school garden, and much, much more. Congratulations on the tremendous accomplishment, and THANK YOU for supporting our La Ballona Lions! Personal fundraising pages will remain live through March 31, so if you haven’t already shared your page with your friends and family, there is still time to do so!

La Ballona 5th Grade Recipe Book needs more Recipes!!
The fifth grade committee is putting together a school cookbook for our Class of 2022 legacy project. We would like to have 1-3 of your favorite recipes as soon as possible (we may be able to add more if space permits). We will select one or more of your recipes to be included in our cookbook; your name will even be printed in the cookbook with each of your own recipes! Please include recipes that reflect your culture, holiday recipes, easy weeknight meals, or ones that are special to your family. If your student is in fifth grade, your recipe will definitely be included. We will include recipes from other grades as space permits.

Covid Testing During Spring Break
Dear CCUSD staff and families,
CCUSD will pause weekly Covid-19 in-school testing during spring break (March 29 – April 8). We will resume weekly in-school testing again on Tuesday 4/12.
CCUSD will provide drive-thru testing during the break for students, families and any and all community members in the Middle School/Elenda parking lot, on the following days:
Saturday, March 26, 9 am - 2 pm
Tuesday, March 29, 9 am - 2 pm
Saturday, April 2, 9 am - 2 pm
Tuesday, April 5, 9 am - 2 pm
Registration in advance is required:
· labgen (labsvc.net) See instructions attached.
· Only register once - then “order a test” for each day you want to come.
· There are no appointment times. Just show up during the 9am-2pm window.
· Results are provided within 24-48 hours.
This drive-thru testing is optional; a negative test result will not be required to return to school after the break, although we strongly encourage everyone to get tested at one of these sites, or an alternative clinic of your choosing, before returning to school on Monday, April 11. All students will be required to get tested in person on Tuesday, April 12, whether or not they got tested during spring break, when our in-school testing resumes.
Please remember that students are required to continue masking while indoors on campus from Monday, April 11 – Friday, April 15, as we monitor any Covid-19 cases that occur during spring break. Barring a major surge, masking will be optional, though still strongly encouraged, for students and staff beginning Monday, April 18.

Community Support Needed
Restaurant fundraiser ends SUNDAY, MARCH 20th
Last weekend to help us raise more money with our restaurant fundraiser at Sharky's in the Marina. (4371 Glencoe Ave, Marina Del Rey)
Skip cooking for a night (or two) and help raise money for our school!
Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill is hosting a fundraiser from March 14 through March 20. Every order placed in our name will be added up and Sharky’s will donate 15% of the total to our school.
La Ballona Elementary School will compete with another local school to see who can raise the most money during those seven days, so it’s important we ALL participate! The school that raises the most money over the course of the week advances in a competition to earn an additional donation from Sharky’s.
- For in-person or phone orders, tell them you’re ordering for La Ballona Elementary School
- For online orders, enter LA BALLONA for your payment method
- For mobile phone orders, enter LA BALLONA in the order type/additional details
Sharky’s Marina del Rey is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
