Welcome Back...
It is hard to believe we are back to school, back to learning, and back to fun. We started the school year with a first day assembly about "Music Production". We had a welcome back Mustang Meeting and dance party. And it is already "FALL" with apple picking, apple sauce making and pumpkin patch trips being planned and prepared. This is our first Annual Pasta Sauce Cook-Off! Come to Pasta Night on October 14, 2016 from 5PM - 7PM as a guest and sample the many wonderful sauces from our Shoemaker School Chefs. Dinner will be similar to our past Pasta Nights, including bread, salad, pasta and dessert. The only difference is that you will get to sample many different sauces and vote for your favorite! Our teachers and staff will be serving our tables! Who are the Chefs? Our families are! Enter the cook-off to show off your amazing pasta sauce recipe! Do you have a winning recipe? Enter the contest to find out! Attached is a flyer if you would like to enter the contest. Keep an eye out for another flyer to attend pasta night with your family and enjoy a delicious pasta dinner. Of course we cannot hold a fundraiser without the help of parent's generous donations. Please click on the sign up genius link (http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050b45a5af2bab9-pasta) if you are able to help with a donation. Coming soon will be a sign up for volunteers for the night.
BOXTOPS
From Mrs. Ringer...
Well, I don’t know about you, but for me, September flew by. We were very busy getting settled and remembering how to be “school people”.
My guidance lessons in September were about Responsibility as we got back into the homework groove and balancing that with all of the after school activities. I focused a lot on being responsible for our homework, as well as being responsible for the way we treat each other.
October will bring many new adventures. My guidance lessons this month will be about Respect which is always our main focus as we highlight the “Bucket Book” again and talk a lot about filling people’s buckets with kindness and treating each other with respect.
In Community Service this month, we collected enough cleaning supplies to put together 20 buckets to help the clean up in Louisiana and elsewhere. Thank you to everyone who was able to support this project.
In October, we are going to kick off our canned food drive beginning the 5th. This will begin our canned food contest. The classes will compete to see who can bring in the most canned goods. The food will be taken to the Zionsville Food Pantry to help our own East Penn families. (Please remember to check the dates on the items sent in. Outdated food cannot be handed out at the food pantry.) Our collection will last until October 31st . The CSC members have also decided to participate in UNICEF again this year.
Speaking of needs, we will be looking for Shoemaker families who are able to help out with donations for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you would like to be a giver family, please contact me at 610-965-1626 ext. 1 or download the sign up sheet off of my website. Those of you who have already signed up to be a giver, you will be receiving an email from Wajeeha Shah very soon.
Thank you for everything you do to support our school and, more importantly, your children.

HALLOWEEN PARADE
On Friday, October 28th, Shoemaker Elementary will hold our
Halloween Celebration with a parade and classroom parties.
Parents are invited to join us at 1:30, for the parade.
Here are some costume and parade guidelines:
Please stand on the macadam street starting at the side of the building near the bus parking and circle around the front of the building to the playground. Please do not stand on the sidewalks so students can parade through these areas.
There is no theme for costumes this year; however, we are encouraging costume recycling or Team Theme or Superhero costumes. When selecting costumes please choose costumes that do not have weapons. Scary costumes are fine as long as they do not have weapons or extreme “blood and guts”.
Please allow yourself extra time getting to school because our parade will begin promptly at 1:30 and we don’t want you to miss your child! Kindergarten will lead the parade followed by first, second, third, fourth, and ending with fifth grade.
Parking will be scarce and part of the lot will be blocked off for the parade, so you may want to carpool with other families.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
