Lockdown Drill Tomorrow/Friday

Throughout the year, we practice several different safety drills in order to be prepared for an unexpected event at school.

Below are the dates we plan to hold each of these drills. Please contact your child's teacher if you prefer that your child does not participate in one of our lockdown drills. Note: drill dates are subject to change; families will be notified in the event that the date of a drill is changed.

If you are dropping off/picking up your child on 54th Ave E...

We have had reports of children being dropped off along 54th Ave E, and cars waiting there until they are up at the school building. This has resulted in backed up traffic on Glenwood St, which also blocks our parking lot exit.

Please note the Avenue side along our field is a "No Parking" zone and we ask that you please do not sit and wait along this road. Thank you for helping us to keep our very busy morning drop off running smoothly!

Need to Request Homework?

Families requesting homework due to an extended illness or vacation, should send the completed work with their child upon return to school.

Please allow the teacher 48 hours to fullfill a homework request. This is a school district policy.

Let your child’s teacher know if you have any questions or concerns.

Giving Tree Project Update

This is the 22nd year Lester Park School has done this learning project! You can read more about it in the Family Letter HERE

So far over $1100 has been donated!!

Money can be sent to school until next Wednesday, Dec 18. The trees and patient gifts will be delivered next Thursday, Dec 19.

Thank you for participating in this Lester Park tradition!

A Few Winter Reminders

Well, I guess we can say winter is finally here! Below are a few winter reminders:

Students are not marked tardy when the drop off line is long due to slick or snow covered roads. We do write their names down as they come in so we can clear their attendance if they are marked absent.
Students will continue to go outside for recess unless the temperature or windchill is below -15 degrees. So please makes sure your child comes to school with a warm jacket, hat, mittens, snowpants and boots.
Crossing guards will continue to be at their corners unless the temperature or windchill is below -15 degrees. On mornings when we are close to the criteria, they may only be at their corners from 7:25-7:35am.

ILLNESS AND ABSENCE INFORMATION

What do I do if my child is going to be absent from school?

Email lesterattendance@isd709.org (the office & nurse will both see these emails)
or call attendance line 336-8875 then “3” to leave a recorded message
Please list any specific symptoms.
Teachers may have a preferred way for you to report an absence to them.

If the office does not know why a student is absent, an automated phone call and an email message will be sent out at sometime between 8:30-9:00. This is for safety reasons.
