A Letter From Mr. Roncone
I hope that the start of the year has been a pleasant one for you and your family. It has been a very exciting return to school for all students, but I’m most proud of our new freshman LEAP program that helped to make an easier transition to high school for our class of 2028. September is already past but we have many more eventful months ahead.
Some recent awards and data reports demonstrates some of our successes. US News and World Report just ranked us the number 1 traditional non-application school in the State of Michigan and NICHE ranked us the number 2 best high traditional public high school in the State of Michigan!! Our school’s ACT and SAT composite averages continue to set the bar for all other public schools to follow. The Detroit news did an article on this success just a few weeks ago. We again saw an amazing number of National Merit semifinalists at an astonishing 41! Up 11 students from last year, truly remarkable! Just last year we completed a brand new SME high tech lab in which we were one of 16 schools in the State to win this impressive grant. We are also really excited to continue the process of becoming an official School of Character. Our focus on resilience, responsibility, empathy, and kindness will have a very positive impact on our school. These programs, added to our already impressive and diverse course offering, will give our students a competitive advantage in any future career path they choose. Our staff and students demonstrate a level of grit, determination, and passion second to none. I can only summarize what separates us from the rest as PURE COLT DETERMINATION and only we have it.
I hope that you have a great rest of your month and don't forget to follow us on Twitter @troy_colts, and @Troy__Athletics, and @RAReducation.
ELA letter to parents
Dear OneTroy Parents/Guardians,
As your students continue their secondary English education, we wanted to share with you the Troy School District’s ELA commitment to a rigorous English literature curriculum. In our classes, our goal is to provide an educational experience that prepares students for academic success and personal growth. This journey aims to establish a foundation for students’ future success, regardless of the path they choose, through the study of English and Language Arts. Central to this approach is our selection of complex texts that span a variety of genres, historical periods, and cultural perspectives. At times, these texts may present challenging content or themes that require a nuance understanding of both the literature and the context in which it was composed. We understand that most good literature is controversial in one way or another. And, as educators, we have carefully selected pieces that ask students to evaluate, question, reflect, and synthesize their thinking--all skills necessary for their secondary education experience and beyond. The exploration of a variety of texts, combined with classroom discussion, independent reading choices, and students sharing their own stories, will help to foster critical thinking as well as interpersonal skills and empathy. Of paramount importance is to create an environment that is intellectually and emotionally safe for our students as they explore texts in a constructive manner. Our district continuously works to develop teacher capacity to guide students through these conversations, ensuring that they are handled with care and sensitivity. Should you want to learn more about a book or topic, or if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the classroom teacher as our partnership is important in your students’ education, and open dialogue enhances clarity and understanding. You can also partner with us by having conversations with your students about their reading at home.
We will continuously encourage your students’ reading at school, and having them share their learning with you at home is another way to ensure their success.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to an enlightening and engaging year ahead.
Warm regards,
Remo Roncone, Principal
Troy High School English Department

Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October 10th from 12:30-3:30 p.m. and 4:00-7:00 p.m., and Friday, October 11th from 12:30-3:30pm. For this round of conferences, we will again be utilizing sign-up procedures like those we used in the past and those used at other schools in OneTROY. Parents will sign up for individual sessions with teachers.
Here are the details:
· Due to the limited availability of appointment slots, please do not feel obligated to sign up for a conference if you do not feel it is necessary.
· Parents will meet with teachers in person for all 3 sessions.
· Parents will sign up for conferences with individual teachers using the SchoolSoft Conference Manager. No walk-ins will be available. Please visit https://troyhs.schoolsoft.com/. If it’s your first time visiting the site, click “REGISTER NOW.” Once you create an account, you will be able to select the teachers with whom you’d like to meet. Other schools in the district use the same software, so if you used the software at another school, you won’t need to register again. You may simply log in and select your teachers.
· You may begin to sign up on Monday, September 30th at 8:00 a.m. You will be able to sign up through Thursday, October 10th at 10:00 a.m.
· If you are unable to schedule an appointment for conferences, please know that teachers are available to communicate via Schoology or email about your student’s progress in class.
Other noteworthy information:
· Conferences are five minutes each to allow for teachers to see as many parents as possible.
· Please be courteous and conscientious of this when meeting with teachers because the timing of your conference will impact future appointments.
· Please allow at least five minutes between teachers so that you have time to get to your next teacher.
· Please have your conference schedule and/or take a picture of it with your phone so you have that information when you are working through conferences with Troy High teachers.
· Counselors and social workers will be available for appointments for the conference session.

Important Safety Reminder
Morning Drop-Off Procedures
Please review these important safety procedures regarding drop-off procedures. Please drop-off your student(s) only at the designated drop-off areas. Please do not drop-off your student in a street. Our students’ safety is most important!
Parents use two drop-off loops heading into THS. Here are the specific procedures:
Drop-off #1 (North) Southbound Northfield Parkway traffic will turn right into the main school entrance and drop students off at the main office circle loop. Traffic exiting THS must turn left onto Northfield Parkway and go back toward Long Lake. We are expecting all southbound drop-offs to use this loop exclusively.
Drop-off #2 (South) Northbound Northfield Parkway traffic will turn left into the drop-off loop and drop students off at the south first-floor entry doors. Traffic exiting THS must turn right onto Northfield Parkway and go back toward Wattles. We are expecting all northbound drop-offs to use this loop exclusively.
Parents should NOT use the Long Lake entrance to THS as that entrance is to be used exclusively by student drivers parking in the student lots.
Please consult the site map below with directions and summary of instructions. Thanks for your assistance with the transportation plan on the THS campus.
College Applications
Counselors have been meeting individually with seniors to assist with the college application process and answer questions. Parents can view the College Application Process Handout on the counseling website along with videos from both U of M and MSU admissions. Documents regarding transcripts, scholarships, college visits, application directions, etc. are all posted to the Class of 2025 course page in Schoology. Students should be aware that much of the college application process is time sensitive. The components of the application include the following: application, transcript, standardized test scores (only if required), letters of recommendation (only if required) and essays (only if required). All components must be received by the university before an application will be considered complete and the components can arrive in any order. For current seniors, some universities might be “test optional” with regards to standardized test scores and allowing for self-reporting. Students should carefully review each university’s requirements to make sure their applications are complete, and all information is received by each school’s deadline.
Transcripts for Seniors
Official transcripts must be sent to colleges as part of the college application process. Students must request transcripts to be sent through www.parchment.com . Most students received their activation codes for Parchment during counselor senior presentations and senior meetings. Seniors still needing activation codes or assistance should message Mrs. Modetz, our transcript secretary, in the Counseling Office. When students are applying through Common App, counselors will upload transcripts to the student’s Common App account. Students should make this request as soon as possible (providing a minimum of two weeks’ notice) to ensure processing for transcript request and counselors have enough time to complete a detailed and thoughtful evaluation. Students applying via the Common App for a November 1st deadline should invite their recommenders at least by October 15th, but hopefully much sooner.
College Representatives
College representatives from around the country are visiting Troy High in-person and virtually to meet with students this fall. Mrs. Modetz regularly posts the dates, times, and zoom information to Schoology. This is a great way for students to learn more about universities and their programs and to establish early interest with college reps. All THS students should take advantage of this great opportunity in our school and virtually! Students in grades 10-12 are welcome to attend during lunch and after school.
AP Exams
Reminder! AP exam payments MUST be paid by November 4th to Total Registration in order for students to receive an AP exam and students must be enrolled in their courses through College Board. Please see the flyer for links, instructions, and dates.
*For students enrolled in semester long AP classes that do not begin until second semester, you will obtain your join code and be able to make a payment during second semester without penalty.
