SEPTEMBER 2024
A Note From the Principal
Our 2024-2025 school year is off to a fabulous start! Our faculty and staff have been preparing all summer for our students. Our school is alive with positive energy and excitement! We appreciate the ongoing support from our Wabash Community.
This year we will continue to focus on The Wabash Way - Being Respectful, Responsible, Caring and Safe! Please discuss these important character traits with your children. Our students are excited to show excellence on a daily basis. I am proud to report that our students are striving for excellence. Together, teachers and parents will challenge our students to work to their full potential. I know our students are up to the challenge!
Throughout the duration of this academic school year, the Wentzville School District partners with community agencies that specialize in providing students, families, and educators with preventative education. Agency presenters are credentialed, coordinated through the District, and under the supervision of building administrators. Presentation topics are targeted toward specific grade levels. All of the students will participate in each program, unless you choose to opt your child out of the lesson(s). If you would like further details and/or are interested in opting your student(s) out of presentation(s), please click this link here.
I have just a few other reminders to share with everyone:
1) Students should not have their cell phones on their person while on campus. All cell phones should be in bookbags. Cell phones and smart watches should not be creating disturbances in our classrooms.
2) Please remember that staff are not on outside duty until 8:20 am. Students should not be dropped off or released from cars without a parent until staff are outside at their stations at 8:20 am.
3) For students who walk or ride bikes/scooters to school, please help them set an appropriate time to leave the house in the morning. Students should not get to the main crosswalk until AFTER 8:20 am. The main crosswalk on Golden Gate is unsupervised prior to 8:20 am.
4) During dismissal time for car riders on our front drive, please take time to build as much independence as possible with the loading process. If you need added time to buckle up car seats and such, please pull forward in line in front of the big gym to do so. This will allow for more cars to pull up along the front sidewalk for loading.
5) Annually, we take part in school wide drills for fire, tornados, earthquakes, and intruders. Our Wentzville School District does provide some parent tips regarding how to talk to your child(ren) about intruder drills. Safety remains our #1 priority at Wabash!
6) Please take time to write your child(s) first and last name on the following items: lunch boxes, water bottles, hats, jackets, coats, and anything else they are at risk of losing. Our lost and found is often full of items. If items have names on them, we are quick to return them to their owners.
Please remember that Mrs. Naumann, Mrs. Polman and I are always available to support you and your children. Please do not hesitate to stop in, call or email us with any questions or concerns. We are here for your children.
Go Ducks!
Mr. Schulte
CHECKING IN/OUT YOUR STUDENT
STUDENT LATE???
If your student is arriving after all staff is inside and after the bell rang, you must come inside and check your student in. No students should be coming in alone after the bell rings.
New FOCUS App Help
Having problems or have questions about the new FOCUS app? Check this link out to see if the answer is there; if not, please contact our office.
Volunteer Paperwork
Volunteer paperwork can be found here. Please remember to send in a copy of the front of your driver's license with your Form A & B
- Volunteers must register with the Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR). It provides a more extensive background check than our Raptor system, and is needed for volunteers who spend more individual time with students than our visitors.
- One-time, lifetime fee of $15.25. It is the responsibility of the volunteer to cover this one-time, lifetime fee. The online registration process can be found at FCSR-BSEES - MO.gov. (NOTE: This registration process CANNOT be completed on a mobile browser/device.)
- Once FCSR online registration is complete, you must submit a paper WSD Volunteer Registration Form A and B to the school office. When you arrive in a WSD building to turn in your forms, you will be asked to scan your ID and complete the Raptor visitor management system’s process as part of your volunteer registration. If you send your forms in to school with your child, or send them to the school office via email, please include a copy of your valid personal ID.
Please note, the wait time for the FCSR Registration to be processed and for the District to be notified can be up to four weeks. We recommend completing this process as early as possible.
Patriot Day
Parents who are First Responders are invited to attend the assembly at 9:15 am with their child(ren). First responders attending, you can meet your student out front at 9:15 am. This is a great way to start your day if you are able to join!
UPDATED INFORMATION ON WENTZVILLE WEBSITE
The Student Misconduct & Disciplinary Consequences information has been updated on the Administrative Services page of our website.
Welcome to the start of another wonderful school year in the Wabash Library! We are so excited for your student(s) to visit the library every 5 days of school this year with their class. Please help your child return (or renew) their library books every time their class comes to the library. We love letting students check out new library books every time they return their old books. Kindergarten students will start bringing one book home each week very soon. Ask your student what they learned about taking care of library books.
Our first Scholastic book fair of the year will be here the week of October 7! THERE WILL BE NO CASH ACCEPTED AT BOOK FAIRS THIS SCHOOL YEAR. We will accept Scholastic eWallets (more info to come), checks made payable to Wabash Elementary, or credit/debit cards with a parent present (or Greenlight student debit cards).

STAY HEALTHY THIS YEAR!
Nurse visits:
If your child visits the nurse during the school day, they will receive a nurse pass. That is the communication from the nurse to you regarding the visit. If it is an illness that requires you to pick up or a serious injury, you will receive a phone call from the nurse. On occasion you may receive an email if it is not urgent, but more information than the pass contains is necessary.
Communication is key, so please feel free to contact your school nurse with any questions or concerns.
When Your Child Is Sick:
Talk to your child’s doctor or health care provider if you are unsure if they should stay home from school. As a general rule, your child should not go to school if they have:
A fever over 100.4° Fahrenheit (F) or 38° Celsius (C) – Your child can return to school after they’ve been fever-free for 24 hours without antipyretics. Antipyretics are medicines that treat or prevent fever.
Diarrhea – Having loose poop (stool) more often that isn’t caused by a change in diet.
Throwing up (vomiting) – May return after 24 hours vomit free.
Coughing that disrupts normal activity.
Wheezing or short of breath.
Redness with yellow or green drainage from the eye(s). Must start antibiotics to return.
A new rash – Not all rashes mean your child must stay home from school. Check with their doctor or health care provider.
Medications:
In order to dispense medication at your child's school, the school district is required to have an authorization form completed by the students prescribing physician annually.
Health Screenings:
Throughout the 2024-2025 academic year, the WSD will provide vision and hearing screenings for all students in grades K-3. If your student is not in grades K-3, you may reach out to your child’s school nurse to request screening. Families may also reach out to the school nurse with any questions or concerns.
This fall, teachers and reading interventionists will be conducting reading assessments with all students. These assessments help us plan lessons and identify students who might benefit from extra reading support. In addition, our building reading specialists will work with small groups of students. These flexible groupings are not the same as Reading Intervention, you will be contacted directly by your child's teacher if he/she qualifies for Reading Intervention.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your classroom teacher.
Measurable Results Survey
Wabash parents and families, please take some time to complete this important parent survey. The survey will close Sept. 30, 2024. This survey will be given to our families, students, and staff this month, and again in April. This link is unique to our building, so if you have kids in multiple schools, please check their newsletter to answer questions for that building. Learn more about this survey and its purpose here.
Pedal the Cause
Five school districts in St. Charles County are collaborating with Pedal the Cause to fight cancer. Pedal the Cause is offering a $10 registration discount for students who attend one of the St. Charles County schools. Learn more.
