Huskies Have HEART Newsletter
September 10, 2023
Greetings Central Heights Students and Families,
Welcome to the 2023-24 School year!! Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter! If there is ever anything you would like to see in our newsletter or questions you have about school that may help other families learn more about school, please be sure to reach out and ask!
Monday, September 11th is an A-day!
Check out our Elective Teachers’ September Electives Newsletter. Read all about what our students are learning and doing in their elective courses!
In order to call your student out absent/excuse them from school, please call our attendance line: 608-318-8020.
Please keep your child home if they have symptoms of respiratory or gastrointestinal infections, such as cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea. Let us know (by calling: 318-8020) if they test positive for any communicable disease, such as COVID, influenza, strep, or pertussis. Your school's health assistant can provide guidance on when your child can return to school after testing positive.
Curious about how to sign up your student(s) for clubs and activities? Check out this linked overview to learn how to sign up for Clubs through Parent Portal.
Activity Bus Information
All eligible busing students are authorized to ride the after school activity bus.
Students must present their bus tag and a pass from their coach/club advisor.
Activity buses do not have set routes. The bus drivers develop routes based on the students riding on any given day.
The length of time and the bus stops can vary greatly from day to day. Student ride times may exceed one hour.
Central Heights will have two after school activity buses. One will service north of Main St and the other south of Main St. All other schools will have one after school activity bus.
Middle School Chromebooks
Chromebooks will be coming home over the next few school days. Chromebooks are being rolled out in the following order:
8th Grade - This past Friday, Sept. 8
7th Grade - Monday, Sept. 11
6th Grade - Tuesday, Sept. 12
In preparation for having devices at home, please remember the following things:
Students will bring their devices to and from home each day. Please help establish a routine for charging the device at home and remembering to return it to school each day, so it is charged and ready to be used as a learning tool each day at school.
Students went through a Chromebook orientation the first week of school that highlighted district expectations for use of a school-issued device. These expectations are condensed in the Student Digital Device Agreement that every student reviewed and signed before receiving the Chromebook. Please review so you have an understanding of these same expectations.
As a parent or caregiver, you have parental controls over the school Chromebook when your student is using it at home. After downloading the Securly Home app from the App Store or Google Play store, this Securly Home overview / Guia de la app para administradores y padres provides an overview of how to sign up and use the Securly app to place additional restrictions on search options, see what your student is accessing on the Chromebook, and how to pause the internet to it, etc. Please contact our school librarian Mindy Grant at mlgrant@sunprairieschools.org or 608-318-8024 with any questions you may have.
Grades 6-12 Loaner Chromebook Procedure Update and Reminder:
Students should be coming to school with their charged chromebooks each and every day. If they are having technical issues with their chromebook, their Library Media Center is the place to take their chromebooks to be exchanged or repaired.
Students will only be issued a loaner chromebook for the reasons listed below.
Students WILL be issued a loaner chromebook for:
Lost devices
Broken (if there are no devices available for exchange)
Testing
There are a limited number of loaner devices at each school, therefore if a student forgets their chromebook, there will likely not be a loaner available for them to use. Please support your student by ensuring they bring their charged chromebook to school each and every day.
Thank you for your support in growing our scholars into responsible and productive users of technology in the 21st century!
