Welcome back!
Dear KCSD families and staff,
We hope you are as excited as we are to kick off a new year school as our students return to a regular schedule, learning in-person, fulltime, five days a week.
For this we are grateful. Unlike last year, students will be in their classrooms with their peers and teachers. There will be PE, clubs, and field trips. Student athletes will be able to practice and compete. Children learn best in the classroom, and our goal is to keep our schools open to in-person learning while providing a safe environment to learn and work.
To begin this school year, the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority has instructed schools to require the wearing of face masks to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We understand that many of our families want to be able to choose whether or not their child wears a face mask to school. We respect the right to personal choice, and our “face coverings are welcome but not required” policy will resume when health authorities lift the state mandate.
We know some families are concerned about COVID-19 or mask mandates, and we have options for those who do not want to be in school buildings this fall. Falcon Online is a new district-operated, home-based, online program for K-12 students. Great Basin Homeschool is a traditional parent-led program for K-8 students. Both programs offer academic support. For more information, click on the links – Falcon Online, Great Basin Homeschool -- or contact Principal Joe Tacchini at 541-883-6699.
As we did this past year, KCSD will work with Klamath County Public Health to advocate for our school communities and local ability to implement appropriate mitigation strategies. We encourage our community to continue to practice healthy behaviors – washing hands, covering coughs, and staying home when you are sick. Vaccination is considered the most powerful tool for stopping the spread of COVID-19. Everyone age 12 and older is eligible for a free vaccine. If you have not yet, consider getting vaccinated.
We know everyone is more than ready for life without COVID-19 concerns or restrictions. We are ready as well. Let’s do what we can to keep each other healthy and have a great school year.
If you have questions, please contact us. We’ll see you on Sept. 7!
Sincerely,
Glen Szymoniak
Superintendent

KCSD IS CELEBRATING 100 YEARS THIS SPRING!
The Klamath County School District is getting ready to celebrate its 100th anniversary this spring. To do so, we want to tell stories and share photos representing district schools, activities, and students from every decade.
The Klamath County Museum has provided a trove of historic photos from the early 1900-1930s, and members of our community have shared some of their photos with us. The above photo is a first-grade class at Summers School (the old brick school at Summers Lane and the Southside Expressway). But we need your help to fill out the rest of our history.
Were you a KCSD student? Do you have any photos you are willing to publicly share? If so, please post your photos with information (dates, location, etc.) in the comments below or email them to schlottmannm@kcsd.k12.or.us. Any photos posted will become part of the district's archives and in the public domain. We may use submitted photos in displays, social media posts, and publications about our upcoming centennial.
